A Note from the

Continuing Education Coordinator

We’re excited to launch the 2025–2026 NEO-RLS Leadership Academy—an inspiring and practical program designed for both current and emerging library leaders. Kicking off on October 1st, the Academy offers a dynamic mix of virtual and in-person sessions, thoughtfully crafted to develop and strengthen leadership skills in today’s ever-evolving library landscape.

The academy will cover essential topics such as:

  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Navigating Difficult Conversations
  • Supporting Your Peers
  • Leading from the Middle
  • The Importance of Empathetic Leadership
  • And much more!

Here is what previous academy participants had to say:

"I enjoyed the leadership academy and learned a lot about myself and about leadership. This was the best program I've taken in NEO-RLS.”

“I really, really enjoyed this academy. This was a great line-up of speakers and I enjoyed getting to know my colleagues in the field. It was a benefit for me and I feel like it overall strengthens the profession to have events like this. I hope to be able to participate in other similar events in the future. Thank you to Melissa Lattanzi for all the hard work she put into this event!"

If you’re ready to elevate your leadership potential, build lasting professional connections, and make a greater impact in your organization, then this academy is for you! For more information and to register, visit the event page.

For any questions or additional information, please contact Melissa Lattanzi at lattanzm@neo-rls.org.

Don’t miss this opportunity to grow, lead, and thrive. We look forward to seeing you there!

Invitation to a Tri-State Cohort for Building Community-Based Summers

Public library workers in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana are invited to apply to participate in Building Community-Based Summers (BCBS), a series of learning and discussion sessions held online on Tuesday mornings from late September through mid-December 2025.

BCBS is designed to help libraries build strategies to work with their communities to create and provide inclusive summer programs and services.

Selected participants will engage with a tri-state cohort to dig deeply into inclusive summer services. Participants will work with the Youth Services Consultants from Michigan and Ohio, the Adult Services Consultant from Ohio, and each other to consider what impact summer programs are having on those that need them the most.

If you are interested in being a part of this learning opportunity, complete this application by midnight on Sunday, August 24.

Questions? Register here for a virtual Q&A session taking place on Monday, August 11 at 11:00 ET. Library consultants will be available to answer questions live. Submit questions through the registration form or ask by voice or chat during the Q&A!

Congrats to Madison Public Library on Their New Bookmobile

Earlier this week, Madison Public Library welcomed its new bookmobile home to the library. This new  33-foot Winnebago bookmobile, also called Gus the Book Bus, is a replacement for the 2007 bookmobile gifted to the library in 2018 by Geauga County Public Library.

The new bookmobile is truly a mobile branch with both materials and indoor and outdoor programming space.
