Event Description
Adventure Begins at Your Library, and let's start the adventure with NEO-RLS's teen summer reading workshop. The adventure begins with getting to know new people with a fun icebreaker that will generate many program ideas. This will be followed by sessions focused on marketing and messaging to teens, STEM prrograming with an opportunity to try engineering. We will have a conversation about speakers and organizations to partner with, so bring your best contacts. Before lunch, we will have a role-playing demo with a craft. After lunch, we will be hosting a program palooza. You will have an opportunity to hear 6 different programs and ask questions. If you didn't get enough programming in the palooza, there will be a rapid-fire program feature and we will end the day learning about how NEO-RLS's VR kits can offer exciting adventures at your library. More details will be coming soon. Don't miss this fun-filled day and opportunity to connect with your colleagues.
Marketing to Teens Let's take a peek into individuality! Being next to multiple schools in the district, RRPL has the ideal location for teens. But how do we keep them interested in our programs? Join Robert as he talks about meeting every teen population where their priorities are and your strategic plan. Presenter: Exploring STEM Programming Let's take a look at Escape Off a Deserted Island, a three part STEM-themed program that encourages critical thinking and creativity in participants. We will also explore Try Engineering, a website dedicated to STEM education through problem-solving and tasks. Learn how this resource can help you devise new programs, or elevate some of your existing programs. Presenter: Dungeons & Dragons & Crafts, Oh My! Join Bainbridge Youth Librarian Katie Whisler on an epic quest to see how you can turn popular tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) into successful programs that fit extremely well with 2023's summer reading theme of 'The Adventure Begins.' Level One will cover a basic overview of the most popular TTRPG, a game known as Dungeons & Dragons. While on this level, you will gain skill points in understanding how the game is played, the tools at your fingertips to help get you started, and how you might be able to offer game sessions of your own at your library. Level Two will then take us on a tactile journey of the many different craft programs that you can theme around these popular games, allowing anyone with an interest to host or participate in these programs and potentially reaching a new crowd of library attendees. Finally, once we reach Level Three, we will practice making one such craft ourselves. Presenter: It’s (Library) Adventure Time! Summer 2024 Program Ideas Adventure is just around the corner – let’s start planning! From cooking chaos to fandom fun, we’ll make sure this summer is one your teens will never forget.
