SUMMARY:Teen Summer Reading Program: Adventure Begins at Your Library
LOCATION:Bainbridge Branch , 17222 Snyder Rd., Chagrin Falls, OH, 44023
DESCRIPTION:Teen Summer Reading Program: Adventure Begins at Your Library\n\n02/01/24 09:30 AM EST\n - 02/01/24 04:00 PM EST\Description:\nAdventure Begins at Your Library, and let's start the adventure with NEO-RLS's teen summer reading workshop. The adventure begins with getting to know new people with a fun icebreaker that will generate many program ideas. This will be followed by sessions focused on marketing and messaging to teens, STEM prrograming with an opportunity to try engineering. We will have a conversation about speakers and organizations to partner with, so bring your best contacts. Before lunch, we will have a role-playing demo with a craft. After lunch, we will be hosting a program palooza. You will have an opportunity to hear 6 different programs and ask questions. If you didn't get enough programming in the palooza, there will be a rapid-fire program feature and we will end the day learning about how NEO-RLS's VR kits can offer exciting adventures at your library. More details will be coming soon. Don't miss this fun-filled day and opportunity to connect with your colleagues.\n\nMarketing to Teens\nLet's take a peek into individuality! Being next to multiple schools in the district, RRPL has the ideal location for teens. But how do we keep them interested in our programs? Join Robert as he talks about meeting every teen population where their priorities are and your strategic plan.\n \nPresenter:\nRobert Isom is a Marketing Manager at Rocky River Public Library. He began his career as a page at Cleveland Heights Public Library while attending Cleveland State University for multiple degrees in Communications. Working closely with teens throughout his seven-year career, he’s gained an appreciation for unorthodox approaches and opinions. Working closely with RRPL’s teen librarian, Robert helps bring the programs to life through their digital newsletters, flyers, and website.\n\n\n\n\nExploring STEM Programming\nLet's take a look at Escape Off a Deserted Island, a three part STEM-themed program that encourages critical thinking and creativity in participants. We will also explore Try Engineering, a website dedicated to STEM education through problem-solving and tasks. Learn how this resource can help you devise new programs, or elevate some of your existing programs. \n\nPresenter:\nAllison Monai began her library journey as a volunteer at her local library while she attended college, and since then has moved up to become a Youth Services Librarian at the Elyria Public Library! Her dedication and passion for librarianship has yielded her nine years of experience working in libraries. Although she can be found doing programming for children of all ages, her main focus is teens. She loves creating STEM programming, and views it as a similar creative outlet to crafting. \n\n\n\n\nDungeons & Dragons & Crafts, Oh My! \nJoin Bainbridge Youth Librarian Katie Whisler on an epic quest to see how you can turn popular tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) into successful programs that fit extremely well with 2023's summer reading theme of 'The Adventure Begins.' Level One will cover a basic overview of the most popular TTRPG, a game known as Dungeons & Dragons. While on this level, you will gain skill points in understanding how the game is played, the tools at your fingertips to help get you started, and how you might be able to offer game sessions of your own at your library. Level Two will then take us on a tactile journey of the many different craft programs that you can theme around these popular games, allowing anyone with an interest to host or participate in these programs and potentially reaching a new crowd of library attendees. Finally, once we reach Level Three, we will practice making one such craft ourselves.\n \nPresenter:\nKatie Whisler is a Youth Services Assistant at the Bainbridge Library. She works with children and teens of all ages but can primarily be found either teaching dance moves to toddlers at her weekly Rhythm & Rhyme story time or playing a variety of board games with the after-school teens. She organizes the Bainbridge Library's Teen Advisory Committee and also plans regular virtual programs including a bi-weekly Dungeons & Dragons campaign and virtual historical seminars focusing on figures such as Henry VIII, Mary, Queen of Scots, Lorenzo Medici, and more. She studied at Hiram College where she double-majored in English and History with a minor in Classical & Medieval Studies.\n \n\nIt’s (Library) Adventure Time! Summer 2024 Program Ideas\nAdventure is just around the corner – let’s start planning! From cooking chaos to fandom fun, we’ll make sure this summer is one your teens will never forget.\n\nPresenter:\nSarah Amazing is the Teen Services Department Manager at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, where she has worked since 2007, elevating teen services from the weird collection and occasional program to the incredible experience it is today. She is a YALSA Transforming Teen Services trainer, a member of the Take 5 committee, Teen Think Tank planning team, active in the Ohio Library Council, and speaks throughout Ohio. She writes at zen-teen.com.\n\n\nLunch is included in this workshop.\Details:\nWho should attend: Anyone interested in Teen Summer Reading Programs\n\nCompetency:  Programming\n\nNon-Member Cost:    $50.00\nNEO-RLS Bronze Member Cost:  $37.50\nNEO-RLS Silver Member Cost:   $25.00\nNEO-RLS Gold Member Cost:      FREE\nNEO-RLS Individual Member Cost:  $25\n \nThere is an additional $20 surcharge for facility use and amenities.\nWe encourage you to register a minimum of three (3) days in advance for this event in order to ensure that we can accommodate your full participation in terms of seating, hand-outs, food, etc.\n \nIt’s never too late to save your library money.
