Explore the 2025 theme Color Our World and discover how to infuse creativity, culture, and connection into your library’s youth services! This interactive workshop equips library staff with tools, strategies, and program ideas to celebrate the colors in our world. This year we have organized the day by age level. Presentations will consist of preschool, K- grade 4, and grades 5 -7 programming ideas. After lunch we will have a program palooza where you will have an opportunity to hear 6 different program ideas. We will end the day with a roundtable discussion and presentation from Janet Ingraham Dwyer on the CSLP. Don't miss this fun-filled day and opportunity to connect with your peers. Color Our Preschool World: Programming for the Littlest Patrons!
Handout provided will give participants the choice of storytime themes of 5 weeks on artistic endeavors (painting, singing, dancing, etc.) OR 7 weeks of programming on different countries around the world! I also plan to share some "new for 2024" books that go with some of the themes.
Presenter: Barbara Scott has been the Children's Librarian at the Bucyrus Public Library for the past 39 years. She is a member of OLC and has served on various committees, Executive Director of Crawford Reads 20 (local grass-roots literacy organization), Local Champion for the local affiliate of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, member/instructor of the Ohio Ready to Read Task Force. She has been doing storytimes for 39 years and also heads up their popular Music, Movement, and More program that has branched out from the library into area preschools/schools.

Eli Millette is a dynamic children’s and teen services manager at the Akron Summit Public Library Main Branch. He’s an active community member, serving on the board of Lake Erie Ink, a nonprofit writing space for youth based in northeast Ohio, and contributing to the Collaborative Summer Reading Program as a member of the finance committee. When he’s not inspiring future readers and writers, you might find him strumming his ukulele during Storytime.
Color Your Library
Color your Library! Join us for an engaging presentation on budget-friendly and interactive ways to decorate for Summer Reading! We’ll explore DIY projects, upcycled décor, and collaborative initiatives that inspire readers of all ages to dive into summer reading, all while keeping costs low and fostering a sense of togetherness.
Presenters: Amy Raischel has been a Children's Library Associate for 10 years at Mentor Public Library. She grew up in New York and moved to Atlanta, Georgia when she was 21 years old. While living in Atlanta she graduated from Kennesaw State University with my Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education. The summer before her student teaching semester, She married her best friend who grew up in Chardon, Ohio. Once she completed her student teaching semester and graduated that December, She moved to Ohio. She was fortunate enough to stumble upon the best job ever when she was hired at Mentor Public Library. Working in the children's department allows her to still work with kids, carry on with my love of crafting, and be present in a space of positivity, where we provide a service that encourages kids to learn and grow.
Gillian DiPofi is a creative professional and artist from Geneva on the Lake, Ohio. She has worked in libraries since 2019 and has been part of the Children's Department at the Mentor Library since 2021, where she is dedicated to fostering a love of learning and creativity in young minds. Gillian holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Visual Arts from Lake Erie College, which she earned in May 2019. In addition to her work at the library, she teaches art classes in her free time, inspiring others to explore their artistic potential. She could not be more excited for this Summer Reading theme
Art Gallery for Everyone
Learn how the Twinsburg Public Library turned their children's department into a community art gallery and hosted the fanciest low-budget art gallery opening around. Discover how you too can create a temporary art gallery in your library that engages patrons of all ages.
Presenter: Melissa Tallis the Children's Services Manager at the Twinsburg Public Library. Before Twinsburg she was at the Way Public Library in Perrysburg for almost 10 years where she started as a Youth Services Librarian before becoming Youth Services Coordinator. Melissa has served on NORWELD's Summer Reading Workshop Committee for the past 5 years and has presented on a variety of topics from ocean themed snacks to time traveling in the library and now is excited to be presenting for NEO. Melissa specializes in entertaining toddlers through many toddler story times, bubble dance parties, and drive-in movies.
Warming Up to Summer
To wrap up a day full of ideas, fun, and connections, we’ll look at CSLP’s “Color Our World” and other theme options, explore statewide resources including the Summer Library Program LSTA grant opportunity, and take a moment to celebrate what we love about our summer reading programs.
Presenter: Janet Ingraham Dwyer is the youth services library consultant at the State Library of Ohio. Her job is to support, advise, and empower children’s and teen services specialists in public and school libraries around the state. She manages Ohio’s participation in the nationwide Collaborative Summer Library Program; coordinates Choose to Read Ohio; co-facilitates Building Equity-Based Summers learning sessions; promotes library participation in nutrition programs and community well-being initiatives; and collaborates with the Ohio Library Council on Ohio Ready to Read, a statewide resource network supporting early literacy activities in libraries.
