A Note from the

Executive Director

I am excited to introduce three new members to the NEO-RLS team!

Mary Ellen Powers joined us as our new Fiscal Officer on February 3rd. Mary Ellen brings extensive experience in accounting and finance, having previously served as the Fiscal and Audit Manager at WKSU - Kent State University, Financial Analyst for the City of Fairlawn, and Treasurer for CAMLS (Cleveland Area Metropolitan Library System). We are thrilled to have her expertise on board.

Hillary Brown started with us on February 24th as our Programs and Services Associate. Hillary comes from Cleveland Heights-University Heights Library, where she worked as a Youth Services Librarian. She has also held positions as a Product Support Specialist at OverDrive and as Library Project Manager at the Transformer Station Museum. We look forward to the innovative contributions she’ll bring to our programs and services.

Jill Grunenwald began working with us as our Marketing and Engagement Coordinator on March 3rd. Jill was previously a Marketing Specialist at OverDrive and has a background working in public, academic, and special libraries. Additionally, she is the Creator & Co-host of the Professional Book Nerds podcast at OverDrive. Her experience will be invaluable as we continue to enhance our outreach and engagement efforts.

Please join me in welcoming Mary Ellen, Hillary, and Jill to the NEO-RLS team! We are excited to have them on board and look forward to the great work we will accomplish together.

Have a great day!

April 30, 2025 -Registration Now Open

Registration is open now for 2025 Reimagining School Readiness Workshop Spring workshop which will be held on April 30, 2025 at the State Library of Ohio.

Do you wonder what research really says about how to support school readiness?

The Reimagining School Readiness Toolkit is a suite of research-backed resources created for library staff to help families prepare children ages birth to 8 years for success in school and in life.

The workshop topics include:

  • key findings from current cognitive and developmental psychology research
  • the implications of those findings for library staff’s daily work
  • practical ready-to-implement ideas for activities
  • resources for staff training and for parents/caregivers

Registration and more information can be found the State Library of Ohio’s website.

Contact Penelope Shumaker at pshumaker@library.ohio.gov with any questions.

Event Announcement: Library of Things (LoT) Role in Sustainability, 13 Mar 2025

Library of Things (LoT) Role in Sustainability

When: 13 Mar 2025 11:00 AM, EDT
Where: Virtual

Please join us for our next SUS-IG event. We will be discussing how Library of Things (LoT) are becoming common in libraries. If you are unfamiliar with LoT and how they can play a role in sustainability you can check out this article from Sustainability for All (https://www.activesustainability.com/positive-society/library-of-things/). Does your library already allow people to check out non-traditional things? If so, please let us know if you would like to contribute to our conversation!
