Upcoming Webinar for Academic Libraries

Checking out Software Licenses: Expanding Equitable Access and Maximizing License-Use Efficiency

Are you looking for a better way to provide your patrons with access to expensive software like Adobe Creative Cloud and Apple’s Final Cut Pro? Rather than limiting access to in-library use, Miami University Libraries has developed a process that allows users to check out short-term access to software licenses for use on their own devices.

Join us on March 19th at 2:00 PM for an insightful webinar where Miami University’s Ken Irwin and Mike Bomholt will share how their model has led to student cost savings, high rates of license utilization, and a strong return on investment. This session is perfect for e-resources librarians, library technologists, and forward-thinking library leaders looking to enhance digital access for their users. For more information or to register, visit the event page.

Stay Connected with the Academic Directors Network Group

Looking for more opportunities to discuss challenges, ideas, and strategies with colleagues? The Academic Directors Network Group offers informal virtual and in-person discussions throughout the year on key topics affecting academic libraries. Members also stay connected through Discord, where they can share resources, ask questions, and collaborate asynchronously.

If you are interested in joining the Discord server, contact ragan.snead@neo-rls.org.

Have a great day!

Applications are being accepted for public libraries to host a Guiding Ohio Online Technology Trainer

Applications are being accepted for public libraries to host a Guiding Ohio Online Technology Trainer through March 23, 2025. Guiding Ohio Online is a State Library LSTA funded program created to assist libraries serving rural populations. Guiding Ohio Online Technology Trainers help Ohioans develop the digital literacy skills needed to fully participate in the digital age.

Trainers will serve in selected libraries during the program year, July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026. Application questions and Proposed Budget forms for Guiding Ohio Online can be found here and are due March 23, 2025.  Application drafts can be submitted here through March 2nd, 2025.

State Library staff will be hosting a virtual Open Office Hour for Guiding Ohio Online on February 25 from 1-2 p.m. to answer questions about the program and the application process. The Open Office Hour is a great time to ask specific questions or discuss program ideas with State Library staff.

A Guiding Ohio Online informational session can also be viewed online at the State Library of Ohio’s YouTube channel,  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbrAVyATo7g
