A Note From a
Continuing Education Coordinator

Just in case you missed it, registration is open for our popular Day for Public Service.  This year we are focusing on Psychological Safety and Building Connections.  You have three opportunities to attend.

Bainbridge Library
Tuesday, 10/8/2024
Avon Lake Public Library
Wednesday, 10/30/2024
Stark Library
Wednesday, 11/20/2024

The morning will start with psychological safety.  Evidence shows that when teams have psychological safety, they're more willing to acknowledge their own mistakes and figure out how to prevent them from moving forward. They're also more comfortable raising problems and exploring innovative solutions. During this session, we will focus on the "why," "what," and "impact" and create a call to action.

Presented by:

  • Krista L. Allison who currently serves as a Program Support Strategist for Stark Education Partnership, Inc.
  • Hannah Cowie is an Ohio Certified Prevention Consultant (OCPC) who currently works as an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant for State Support Team 9.
  • LaFlovia “Flo” Ginanni is currently the Vice President of Diversity, Culture, and Engagement for United Way of Greater Stark County

The afternoon session is Building Connections in the Library with Effective Communication. Communication is the key to success in the workplace. We have the desire to communicate better but the missing piece is the “know-how.” In this presentation you will get the “know-how” to….

  • Express your ideas in a clear and concise format
  • Listen with intent rather than with an agenda
  • Manage communication breakdowns
  • Communicate effectively with difficult people

Presented by:  Marilee Fini, M.A. CCC/SLP is a certified and licensed Speech Pathologist in Cleveland, OH running her own private practice, as well as an adjunct professor at Lakeland Community College.

I had the pleasure of hearing Marilee present last week for our public speaking workshop and she was very engaging and interactive.

Attendees had this to say:

I enjoyed this training so much!

Marilee modeled much of the advice she gave during her presentation in an authentic way. She covered all aspects of public speaking. Please invite her back to speak!

By attending this workshop, you also receive the Customer Service Academy Certificate.

If you do not work in public service, and are interested in these topics please register.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Trumbull County Reads

The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library's annual countywide reading initiative this fall will explore how cultures and communities are connected by the traditions, the innovations, and the stories shared through food.

Trumbull County Reads 2024 will feature Yes, Chef: A Memoir by Marcus Samuelsson with Veronica Chambers. The book chronicles Samuelsson's journey from his grandmother's kitchen to becoming an acclaimed chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, and philanthropist. It begins with a simple ritual: Every Saturday afternoon, a boy who loves to cook walks to his grandmother's house and helps her prepare a roast chicken for dinner. The grandmother is Swedish, a retired domestic. The boy is Ethiopian and adopted, and he will grow up to become the world-renowned chef Marcus Samuelsson. This book is his love letter to food and family in all its manifestations.

A variety of book discussions, cooking demonstrations, and more learning experiences related to the food and family themes found in the book will take place at libraries during October.
