A Note From a
Continuing Education Coordinator

We are working hard to fill the back half of our 2024 continuing education calendar with diverse, practical offerings. I’d like to highlight two webinars and an in-person session from our upcoming events:

Perhaps you’ve heard of empathic design, or empathetic design. This approach centers the user and engages them with empathy and compassion. On July 10th at 2:30 PM, Jennifer Blair, Head of User Services and Assistant Professor at Azusa Pacific University, will be presenting Empathic Design: Center Your Library with Empathy, Compassion, and Purpose. In this session you will learn how to utilize visualization and creativity to develop knowledge and skills to identify critical needs of your library.

Sustainability is among our profession’s chief principles and highest aspirations according to the American Library Association’s Core Values of Librarianship. Emily Lindberg, Youth Services Associate at Westlake Porter Public Library, is presenting Become a Sustainability Leader: How to Increase the Environmental Capital of your Library on August 28th at 2:00 PM. This session will illuminate how librarians can increase their library’s environmental capital through practices, collections, spaces, programs, and strategic plans.

Public Speaking can be an intimidating experience for most people. However, when we choose to see Public Speaking with an “overcomer mindset,” visualizing what we can do, we emerge as empowered and confident communicators. On September 19th at Twinsburg Public Library, Licensed Speech Pathologist and Professional Speaker Marilee Fini will lead Public Speaking: Effective Skills for Libraries, a full-day workshop designed to help you overcome nervousness, speak with confidence, and engage your audience.

Be sure to check our CE Calendar regularly as we continue to add webinars, networking meetings, workshops, conferences, and more.

Have a great day!

Jeff
