A Note From the
Continuing Education Coordinator

We are excited to announce that registration is now open to individuals for the 2023 Staff Development Day on Columbus Day, Monday, October 9th at Lakeland Community College.  We are thrilled to have staff from 5 libraries participating this year.  We have 25 spots open to individuals.

Our Keynote is
You are the Guardians at the Gate:
You may not know this, but you are the leaders in the fight against ignorance, censorship, and misinformation.  When your customers think of the library, they think of you!  You are the guardians at the gates, truly unsung heroes who deal with all types of chaos and disorder throughout the days and nights at your library. This keynote will celebrate your awesome work, give some tools to fight the good fight and provide techniques to make deeper connections with your customers. This will be presented by Maurice Coleman creator of T is for Training the long-running training/education and empowerment podcast.

We have a line of breakout sessions to benefit all staff including:

  • Ambassadorship = Customer Service + Marketing + Community Engagement
  • Together We Need to Understand Diversity in the Library Collection
  • Unleash the Power of Nonverbal Communication!
  • Re-energizing Your Space: How Cleaning and Mental Health are Connected
  • Bridging the Gap: Social Work in Libraries
  • Roundtable Conversation about Book Challenges
  • Art of Storytelling
  • Re-energize Your Spirit

We also have dedicated time to network with your peers.  In addition, there will be stations throughout the day for relaxing and re-charging your energy. These will consist of adult coloring, puzzles, health tech, meditation and more.

Notary Training Registration Open

Notary Training is now scheduled for Thursday, September 14th at North Ridgeville Branch of Lorain Public Library System.  Click this  event link for more information on registration.

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) Theme/Slogan Committee has selected the finalists for 2026 slogan and 2027 program theme from suggestions submitted by librarians around the USA. Thank you to all who responded to the call for slogan and theme suggestions earlier this year. See the finalists here.

The 2026 slogan and 2027 theme will be determined by a vote of member states at the CSLP Annual Meeting in September.

Please help determine Ohio’s vote by selecting your favorites from among the finalists. You may vote for up to 2 slogans for 2026 and 3 themes for 2027.

Vote for your favorites by 8:00 am on Monday, September 11:

You have the opportunity to participate in a CSLP listening session to share your thoughts on the upcoming slogan and theme with CSLP board members, state reps, and library workers nationwide. The listening sessions will be on Thursday, August 24 and Friday, September 8.

The listening sessions provide library workers around the USA a chance to voice and listen to various perspectives. They are your opportunity to build support for your favorite slogan and theme. All library workers are welcome to attend either session. Registration is not required; just join at the Zoom link on the day of your choice:
