GENERAL SUMMARY
Under moderate supervision, operates step-van to pick up and deliver materials, furniture and equipment. Maintains delivery log. Assists with sorting, assembling and packing library materials, furniture and equipment.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required include:
• Ability to apply basic levels of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, etc.
• Knowledge of standard office procedures and practices.
• Knowledge of U.S. Postal, UPS and Fed-Ex regulations and other shipping industry standards.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with co-workers, customers, vendors, and/or representatives of other agencies.
• Ability to detect basic errors and make corrections as directed and under established procedures.
• Ability to navigate local streets and highways.
• Ability to operate step-van.
• Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 70 pounds without assistance).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Complies with Cuyahoga County Public Library’s policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, and confidentiality.
• Drives library vehicles including a step-van. Picks up and delivers library materials, furniture, equipment, recyclables, etc. to library branches, local nursing homes and other locations.
• Maintains timetable and delivery schedule logs.
• Performs routine maintenance and safety checks on library vehicles.
• Arms and disarms security systems at library buildings and maintains security of building keys. Assists in ensuring security of loading dock area.
• Receives shipments from external shipping companies as necessary. Checks the items shipped against item invoices for discrepancies. Loads and unloads delivery trucks.
• Sorts mail, library materials, equipment, etc., distributes materials, and maintains related records. Packages materials for shipping.

Summary Minimum Education & Experience Required
• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of delivery or other related experience.

OTHER TESTING/LICENSES REQUIRED
• Due to the physical exertion required to perform the essential duties of this job, the decision to hire is contingent on job candidate passing a pre-employment medical exam through a medical provider contracted by the library.
• License: A valid driver's license is required to operate library owned vehicles and a clean driving record must be maintained at all times.
• A criminal background check is required, as are pre-employment drug and nicotine screens.
• Ability to successfully obtain Tow Motor Certification and maintain certification if required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
• Routine discomfort from exposure to moderate levels of heat, cold, moisture/wetness, noise, and air pollution. May involve routine exposure to light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions or occasional exposure to hazardous conditions such as chemicals, heights and moving parts.
• Work requires extensive physical exertion such as lifting of very heavy objects (up to 70 pounds without assistance), deep bending, climbing steps and step ladders and/or assuming awkward positions.
• Occasional hazards associated with use of sharp tools such as box cutters, knives, etc
