Job Summary:
The Youth Team Lead is responsible for working collaboratively with their team of department Librarians, Associates and the Youth Services Manager to fulfill smooth daily operations of the department. The Team Lead participates in the creation and presentation of Youth Services Department programs and develops and maintains collections.
Team Lead Responsibilities:
This role also creates the department staff schedule including programming and ensuring adequate reference desk coverage for all operational hours. The Team Lead manages projects, prepares and maintains written procedures, and oversees operational aspects of the department in the absence of the manager. This role also assists the department manager in all aspects of the department as needed.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Manages the schedule for the department by maintaining a calendar for proper operational hour coverage and identifying and resolving any conflicts.
Plans, coordinates, and executes large department projects.
Assists the department manager in onboarding staff.
Manages the operational aspects of the department in the absence of the manager. Develops, plans, promotes, conducts, and evaluates programs appropriately for ages 0-18.
Represents the Library by visiting and presenting programs at schools, preschools, and childcare facilities within the community.
Ensures proper documentation and recording of outreach and teacher loans.
Develops and maintains assigned youth collections by reviewing, selecting, and weeding materials to ensure a variety of current and appropriate materials are available for use.
Plans and manages budget needs for department supplies, department program materials, and assigned collections within scope of available funds.
Identifies and books department performers and presenters.
Performs public service including answering reference questions; assisting patrons to find, use, and reserve materials; readers advisory; computer assistance; and general assistance.
Interacts regularly with Library staff, patrons, and public.
Performs functions to keep department materials organized and presentable, reviews the shelves periodically to ensure that books are filed in correct order, shelves materials, reviews materials for damage and/or replacement.
Maintains promotional floor displays.
Participates in Library teams and meetings.
Serves as Person in Charge (PIC) as requested.
Exhibits a thorough knowledge of Library policies and procedures and implements these policies and procedures courteously, efficiently, and with an exercise of discretion and judgment.
Attend workshops, continuing education or staff development, as requested.
Performs other functions assigned to position to ensure effective and smooth continuity of operations and transactions in the best interest of the library.
Qualifications:
Master of Library Science or Library Information Sciences from an ALA accredited school.
At least three years working with youth in a library setting, preferably in a public library.
Knowledge of children’s and teen literature, learning styles, and Ohio Learning Standards.
Experience and competency in collection development.
Demonstrated competence with basic computer functions as used in the library setting.
Excellent customer service, communication, and orgnization skills.
Friendly and welcoming attitude towards everyone
Ability to resolve complex problems appropriately and to multitask with pending deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and using a computer. Ability to stoop to floor and reach overhead.
Must be able to traverse to various locations within the library. Must be able to regularly lift- up to 30 pounds.
Travel is required to visit local schools, community events, off-site training and/or meetings.
alary Range:
$49,942.00 To $72,416.00 Annually
