FULL-TIME POSITION OPEN

Basic Function:
Performs professional library tasks within the public library system.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:
This position requires a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of library and information science. Key responsibilities include assisting management with the design and implementation of strategic initiatives and services, leading and completing complex projects, providing direct public service and reference assistance, and planning and presenting public programs. The position may serve as acting manager in the manager’s absence and exercises functional supervision over Public Services Professionals, Public Services Associates, and Aides.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists patrons with the selection, organization, and interpretation of library materials.
Answers reference and information questions; conducts research as needed.
Oversees collection development, including material selection for one or more specialized subject areas.
Serves as a resource to management on strategic initiatives and projects.
Assists management in designing library services and identifying community needs.
Leads or coordinates the rollout of new services and initiatives.
Plans and presents a variety of programs for all ages.
Gives presentations to community groups and represents the library at external events.
Leads committees and contributes to systemwide initiatives.
Plans and prepares displays, bulletin boards, bibliographies, and webliographies.
Provides functional supervision and assists with staff training.
Develops and conducts systemwide training for staff as needed.
Oversees branch or departmental services as assigned; may serve as building in-charge in the absence of a manager.
Resolves patron and operational issues and responds to complaints.
Interprets and ensures implementation of library policies.
Monitors and recommends updates to the online catalog.
Performs circulation duties as required.
Maintains awareness of current professional trends, library services, and programs.
Participates in professional associations and continuing education.
Performs other special projects as assigned.
May serve as a certified passport agent.

Other Information:
Full-time, 38 hrs./wk. Starting pay: 23.61/hr. Full-time benefits. Schedule includes daytime, evening, and weekend hours (including Sundays) and may involve six-day workweeks or split shifts. This position plans and presents programs for all ages, with an emphasis on children, teens, and families. The ability to enthusiastically present story times for babies through school-age children is required. Candidates must demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm, and a passion for community engagement.
Experience serving bilingual communities is preferred; the ability to speak or understand Spanish is a plus. The successful candidate will have excellent attendance, flexibility in scheduling, and the ability to serve confidently as the person in charge when assigned.
