NERAL SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, provides timely, system-wide access to Cuyahoga County Public Library collections by creating discoverable metadata for all library materials. This includes contributing, upgrading and correcting metadata in an international bibliographic utility and the library’s integrated library system in accordance with international standards, professional cataloging principles and practices and CCPL policies. Performs all necessary authority work and maintains the library catalog’s authority files.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required include:
• Knowledge of principles, theories and concepts of library science and the principles and practices of metadata creation and maintenance using current and emerging standards.
• Knowledge of the library’s integrated library system as it pertains to cataloging.
• Skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with co-workers, customers, community leaders, vendors, union officers and/or representatives of other agencies.
• Ability to apply sound judgment, resolve problems, and make effective decisions.
• Ability to demonstrate proficient use of personal computer software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job, which may include (but not be limited to) email/calendar software, internet/intranet browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and various systems or software used by CCPL Ability to apply advanced organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files.
• Ability to demonstrate superior verbal and written interpersonal skills and customer service skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Complies with Cuyahoga County Public Library’s policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, and confidentiality.
• Creates metadata to describe library materials (both original and complex copy) including subject analysis, assignment of Dewey call number, and the assignment of relevant name and title access points in the library’s international bibliographic utility and in the library’s integrated library system.
• Provides authority control in the on-line catalog by establishing and/or verifying access points against standard authority files and thesauri.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of metadata standards and developments in the field by studying professional literature and attending related meetings, workshops and conferences.
• Maintains a working knowledge of all relevant modules of the library’s integrated library system and the library’s international bibliographic utility.
• Performs bibliographic maintenance handling catalog revisions and suggestions from branch staff.
• Tabulates and reports monthly statistics for cataloging of new materials, added copies and routing new materials to branches.
Summary Minimum Education & Experience Required
• Master's degree in Library Science.
• At least one year of cataloging experience.
OTHER TESTING/LICENSES REQUIRED
• A criminal background check is required, as are pre-employment drug screens.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
• No major sources of working conditions discomfort, i.e. standard work environment with possible minor inconveniences due to occasional noise, crowded working conditions, and/or minor heating, cooling or ventilation problems.
• Routine pushing of moderately heavy items, such as full carts and/or frequent stooping and bending.
• Work involves near continuous use of computer terminal.
• Work is subject to inflexible deadlines, production standards, and frequent interruptions
