The Archives Intern will be in a unique position to gain insight and practical experience within the field of archives and records management. The Intern will be assigned specific projects related to archival processing, digitization, metadata, digital asset management, institutional records retention, and more under the direction and mentorship of the Rock Hall’s archivists.
TASKS & DUTIES
-Rehousing, inventorying, and documenting incoming acquisitions
-Processing of new and legacy collections
-Creating metadata for digital assets
-Digitizing for preservation and access
-Paging and curating content for research, digitization, and Reading Room appointments
Possible projects
Digital Asset Management: Metadata creation and rights assignment for legacy assets in digital asset management system and linking to collections management system.
Rock Hall Records: Inventory and processing of records transfers in multiple formats from various departments, documenting history of the Museum.
James Brawley Collection: Photography of audiocassette sleeves, assigning correct filenames, embedding with metadata, ingesting into digital asset management system, and linking to collections management system.
New Inductee Webpages: Paging and curating appropriate content, assessing rights, digitization, digital asset ingestion, and metadata creation.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
-Understanding of archival arrangement and description; experience preferred
-Knowledge of or interest in legacy audiovisual formats
-Familiarity with metadata standards
-Attention to detail and good organizational skills
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively
-Proficiency in computer skills with a focus on databases and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, SharePoint and Teams
-Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
-Flexibility to adjust to changing demands
-Historical knowledge of rock & roll and related genres strongly preferred
-Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for a couple hours at a time
Preferred Experiences
-Experience with collections management software preferred - Axiell Collections or Adlib is a plus
-Experience with preservation digitization
-Library catalog navigation, Boolean operator searching
-Adobe Photoshop/Bridge/Premier and/or Capture One
-Familiarity with copyright as it applies to library and archival materials
ELIGIBILITY
Intern applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
Details
Rock Hall internships are paid positions, and for enrichment purposes must be willing to work within other departments. The internship is onsite, starting May 20th and ending July 31st. Exact end dates could be later with some internships. Estimated weekly hours for this internship: 35 - 40 hours
