GENERAL SUMMARY
Under moderate supervision, prepares library materials for distribution to branches by applying barcodes, labels and protective reinforcement, covers or packaging. Routes new materials to branches. Processes added copies. Repairs and refurbishes damaged or worn materials. Sorts, stacks, marks, and unpacks shipments of new materials as assigned. Collates, highlights and files purchase orders as assigned Daily duties shift with workload and departmental priorities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required include:
• Knowledge of standard shipping and receiving procedures and practices.
• Knowledge of standard clerical procedures related to accounts payable.
• Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures including data entry and keyboard familiarity.
• Ability to operate and maintain various processing and repair equipment including electric paper cutter, barcloner, disc cleaning machine and electric tape dispenser.
• Ability to use a personal computer and job-related software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job, which may include, but not be limited to email/calendar software, internet/intranet browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and various systems of software used by CCPL.
• Skill in operation of typical office equipment such as personal computer, facsimile, copiers, scanners, calculators, and telephones.
• Ability to work in a production-based environment.
• Ability to accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Complies with Cuyahoga County Public Library’s policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, and confidentiality.
• Performs various material processing functions including selecting appropriate processing method, affixing barcodes and labels, and applying protective covers or packaging.
• Sorts and collates boxes of incoming materials by purchase order number and date received as assigned.
• Operates Stacker to bring pallets into Receiving Area. Sorts boxes of materials. Unpacks cartons of new materials and inspects the materials for defect and accuracy as assigned.
• Refurbishes damaged or worn materials including cleaning, proofing and replacing labels, and reprocessing and/or repackaging items. Routes refurbished materials to appropriate branches.
• Sorts and routes cataloged materials to appropriate branches daily.
• Performs refurbishing and other technical services-related projects at on-site branch locations as assigned.
• Performs special group projects such as constructing, taping and labeling various-sized boxes, as needed.
• Collates, highlights and files purchase orders as assigned.
• Creates items in the library’s integrated library system for added copies of materials.
SUMMARY MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• High school diploma or GED.
• Six to twelve months of shipping and receiving experience.
• Six to twelve months of clerical experience.
OTHER TESTING/LICENSES REQUIRED
• Due to the physical exertion required to perform the essential duties of this job, the decision to hire is contingent on job candidate passing a pre-employment medical exam through a medical provider contracted by the library.
• A criminal background check is required, as are pre-employment drug screen.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS - LIGHT
• Work may involve near continuous use of computer terminal for long periods of time.
• Requires both moderate physical effort such as pushing truck loads (up to 200 pounds) of materials and stooping and bending, some walking, sitting for extended periods of time as well as considerable physical exertion such as pushing truck loads (300 to 500 pounds) of packaged materials and lifting and carrying heavy items (over 50 and up to 75 pounds)
• Routine discomforts from exposure to light chemical substances used to restore materials, dust and noise.
• Routine exposure to hazards of repair tools such as x-acto knife, scissors, cutters, etc.
• Ability to operate a stacker to move pallets
