Job Overview:
The Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library (Heights Libraries) is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Adult Services Associate with a focus on senior outreach to join our team at the Lee Road Branch. This full-time position plays a critical role in providing exceptional customer service at the busy reference desk while also coordinating outreach to senior living communities and homebound customers. The role also involves supporting our Dementia Friendly programs and helping seniors engage with library resources and services.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting the senior community and providing customer service in a library setting. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced, people-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Adult Services & Senior Outreach Duties:
• Assist library patrons at the reference desk, providing information and guidance on library services, resources, and digital collections.
• Develop and coordinate outreach efforts to senior living communities and homebound individuals.
• Support and contribute to the implementation of Dementia Friendly programs and services.
• Provide individualized assistance to seniors in using technology and library resources.
• Deliver engaging programs or presentations tailored to the senior community.
• Maintain strong relationships with senior care facilities and community partners to ensure accessibility and engagement.

Customer Service & Technology Support:
• Offer excellent customer service to library patrons of all ages, with a special focus on seniors.
• Assist patrons with technology and software applications such as Microsoft Office, digital collections, and web-based programs.
• Help seniors navigate library systems and technologies, from computer usage to e-books and online databases.
• Foster a welcoming environment for all visitors, ensuring everyone receives timely, courteous assistance.

General Administrative & Library Support:
• Help maintain accurate records for senior outreach programs, tracking participation, and program success.
• Assist in organizing materials and preparing resources for outreach programs and events.
• Contribute to the development and planning of senior-focused library services and resources.
• Provide general administrative support as needed, including handling inquiries, assisting with scheduling, and maintaining office supplies for Adult Services.

Requirements:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Coursework or experience related to senior services, social work, or library science is a plus.
Experience:
• Experience working in a public library or customer service role, particularly in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working with diverse populations, especially seniors, is strongly preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse range of people, especially seniors.
• Comfort with technology and software, including Microsoft Office applications and digital library resources.
• Patience and adaptability when assisting customers of varying levels of technical expertise.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a high level of organization and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to clearly explain information to others.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Work Environment and Conditions:
• Location: Based at the Lee Road Branch of Heights Libraries, working in a busy, dynamic library environment.
• Work Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week), covering day shifts, at least one evening shift (1-9) per week, and working at least one Saturday and Sunday every four weeks.
• Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, sit, bend, and push carts. Ability to move materials and interact with the public in a variety of settings.
