ABOUT THE LIBRARY

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ASCPL is hiring a part time Bookmobile Driver to support our Mission Statement to provide resources for learning and leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages that support, improve, and enrich individual, family, and community life.

The Bookmobile Driver works 22.5 hours and:
• Operates bookmobile and van in all weather conditions.
• Ensures safety of Library vehicle passengers, and follows all appropriate post-incident procedures in the event of accidents or emergencies.
• Advises and assists customers with the selection, organization, and interpretation of Library materials.
• Assists coworkers with preparation for daily bookmobile runs.
• Plans and navigates the daily service routes.
• Cleans and cares for the interior and exterior of the bookmobile.
• Performs routine maintenance checks on the bookmobile battery, radiator, and oil and gas gage; checks the generator; and changes the oil, as needed.
• Cleans and maintains the supplies in the garage where bookmobiles and vans are kept.
• Performs a variety of clerical routines.
• Compiles vehicle usage statistics.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science. Knowledge of customer interests related to Library materials, programs, and services. Knowledge of the principles of intellectual freedom as they apply to public libraries. Skill in customer service and community outreach to diverse populations. Ability to handle delivery bags and push book trucks loaded with materials. Ability to drive the Library’s vehicles. Ability to operate a bookmobile and vehicle equipment, including a hydraulic lift and wheelchair lift, in all weather conditions. Ability to
troubleshoot Library vehicle software and hardware independently. Ability to use a computer and job-related software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job. Ability to engage in moderate physical effort, including considerable standing and walking. Ability to lift moderate to heavy objects (more than 25 pounds) and carry them short distances (50 feet or less). Ability to push Library materials carts up to 200 pounds. A valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable personal transportation. Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening, criminal background check, and education verification.

Preferred: Associate’s degree. 2 to 5 or more years of relevant experience.
