Job Title: Adult Services Librarian – 37.5 hours per week Starting Salary: $22.27 per hour Location: Elyria West River Branch (1194 West River Rd N) – Conveniently located off I-90

The Opportunity: Elyria Public Library is seeking an Adult Services Librarian who is enthusiastic about community engagement, passionate about delivering outstanding reference and readers’ advisory services, and excited to design relevant, inclusive programming that speaks to the interests and needs of the adults in our community.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and Lead Dynamic Adult Programs:
· Plan and implement inclusive, engaging programs that promote lifelong learning, creativity, and social connection.
· Explore a wide variety of topics—technology, arts, wellness, local history, finance, and more.
· Partner with local organizations and community experts to enhance program quality and reach.

Deliver Excellent Reference and Readers’ Advisory Service:
· Provide personalized support to patrons seeking information, research help, or reading recommendations.
· Stay current on new titles, authors, and resources to make meaningful connections between readers and materials.

Support Digital Literacy and Technology Access:
· Help patrons build confidence with technology—whether it’s using library databases, setting up devices, navigating job applications, or learning new software.
· Provide one-on-one assistance and small-group instruction on digital tools and library services.

Cultivate a Strong and Relevant Collection:
· Maintain a dynamic, inclusive adult collection that reflects community interests.
· Recommend and evaluate materials to ensure quality, relevance, and balance.

Champion Community Engagement:
· Build relationships with individuals, organizations, and groups to better understand community needs and promote library services and expand EPL’s impact.

Contribute to a Culture of Service and Innovation:
· Collaborate with colleagues across departments to share ideas and support system-wide initiatives.
· Embrace new approaches and help move EPL’s adult services forward with creativity and care.

Qualifications:
· Master’s in Library Science (preferred) or relevant experience in a library or community setting.
· Knowledge of adult literature, reference tools, and emerging technologies.
· Experience developing public programs for adults.
· Strong communication skills and a customer-focused, inclusive approach.
· Confidence using digital platforms—and a desire to help others learn.
· A creative, team-oriented spirit and commitment to public service.
