Job Title: Children’s Librarian – 37.5 hours per week
Starting Salary: $22.27 per hour
Location: Elyria West River Branch (1194 West River Rd N) Conveniently located off I90
*Freshly Remodeled Storytime room will be completed by June 2025*
The Opportunity:
Storytime at Elyria Public Library is more than just reading—it’s about creating lively, interactive experiences that inspire curiosity and excitement. We’re looking for a Children’s Librarian who can bring stories to life, connect with young readers, and make learning an adventure both in the library and throughout the community. If you love leading storytimes, collaborating with schools, and designing creative programs for kids and teens, we’d love to have you on our team!
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Storytimes That Make a Difference:
•Bring stories to life in a freshly remodeled story time room and in the Elyria Community Schools.
•Create engaging experiences that build early literacy skills.
Connect with the Community:
•Build relationships with kids, families, teachers, and caregivers to strengthen the library’s role in early literacy.
•Make the library a place where families feel welcome and excited to return.
Design Fun & Engaging Programs:
•Create fun, hands-on programs that introduce kids, tweens, and teens to new ideas, cultures, and ways of learning.
•Partner with schools and community groups to bring fresh perspectives and creativity to library programs.
Empower Young Readers Through Technology:
•Help young patrons and families explore books, technology, and library resources in engaging ways.
•Provide hands-on support to help youth and families explore and enjoy digital tools.
Collection Development:
•Select and maintain a diverse, engaging collection of books and resources for children and young adults.
•Recommend books that match each reader’s unique interests and needs.
Qualifications:
•A Master’s degree in Library Science preferred, or a relevant field required.
•Experience working with children and young adults in a library, school, or community setting.
•A strong presence and enthusiasm for leading storytimes and engaging young audiences.
•Proficiency in using and teaching digital tools and resources.
•Creativity and a proactive attitude towards developing unique, enriching programs.
•Enthusiasm for fostering a fun, positive, and engaging environment for youth.
