GENERAL SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, this position develops and implements comprehensive marketing strategies to increase community engagement, promote library resources and programs, and enhance Cuyahoga County Public Library's public image. This role involves overseeing branding, digital marketing and outreach efforts to reach diverse audiences and ensure the library remains a vital community asset. Specifically, this position supervises activities related to marketing and communications, data reporting, graphic design and print production functions—establishing project creative, priorities, timelines and evaluation of work progress. Additionally, this position supports CCPL efforts related to fundraising and public relations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required include:
• Knowledge of principles, concepts, strategies and methods of marketing, communications and market research.
• Knowledge of organization, procedures and practices of communications media.
• Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques of effective writing.
• Knowledge of editing, grammar, spelling, punctuation and writing style.
• Knowledge of printing, graphics and related services used in producing communications materials.
• Ability to supervise staff and evaluate work performance and establish project priorities.
• Ability to write and edit materials for publication.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to present department and analytical information through regular reports and presentations.
• Ability to demonstrate proficient use of personal computer software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job, which may include (but not be limited to) email/calendar software, internet/intranet browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and various systems or software used by CCPL.
• Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision making to integrate organizational priorities, meet deadlines, and achieve objectives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Complies with Cuyahoga County Public Library’s policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, and confidentiality.
• Develops, coordinates, and directs comprehensive communications and marketing campaigns across various channels, aligning these efforts with overall organizational objectives and building brand awareness.
• Analyzes target market information to identify new audiences and recommend effective marketing approaches.
• Manages Library marketing strategy, ensuring consistent branding across marketing and communications platforms, including, but not limited to, print materials, advertisements, website and interior/exterior signage.
• Manages Library digital media strategy, including web site, social media and other electronic communication platforms.
• Responsible for developing and executing Library media buying strategy.
• Assists the Chief Communications and External Relations Officer in developing and overseeing policies and procedures to ensure consistent and efficient fulfillment of marketing and communications materials across the library system.
• Collaborates across the organization to develop and execute production of marketing and communications materials and campaigns.
• Analyzes library statistics and demographic data to inform marketing strategy. Produces monthly statistical reports that contribute to management decision making.
• Hires, supervises and evaluates work performance of key personnel within the Marketing and Graphics Departments.
• Assists the Chief Communications and External Relations Officer in developing Communications and External Relations Division budgets, monitors the Marketing Department budget and approves expenditures.
• Executes formal, company-wide internal communications related to a regular internal newsletter and branch closing announcements.
• Organizes and directs Marketing and Graphics Departments workflow and establishes project priorities. Directs employees and provides guidance and coaching.
• Works with community partners to promote joint events or share information to benefit the communities served by CCPL.
• As needed, this position supports Library public relations strategy, including, but not limited to, media relations.
• As needed, this position supports fundraising efforts, including offering expertise in and the execution of advertising, print materials and events.

SUMMARY MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or Journalism required.
• More than five years of communications experience, including public relations, marketing/advertising, internal communications and special events planning; supervisory experience essential, preferably in a unionized environment.

OTHER TESTING/LICENSES REQUIRED
• License: Requires a valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation and in-force automobile insurance.
• A criminal background check is required, as are pre-employment drug and nicotine screens.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
• Occasional exposure to minor discomforts of outside weather conditions when traveling.
• Occasional minor discomforts from continuous use of a video display terminal.
• Attendance at evening/weekend meetings or programs may be required.
