Position Title: Substitute Circulation Assistant
Grade: 15
FLSA status: Non-exempt. Variable (up to 24 hours/week)
Reports to: Head of Circulation & Shelving
Staff Supervised: None
Wage: $12.00/hour
This is an on-call position and hours are not guaranteed. Hours are available at Bainbridge, Geauga West, Chardon, Middlefield, and/or Thompson. It is the Subs choice as to what locations they are able to work.
Position Summary: Provides direct public service and performs circulation duties associated with the operation of the library.
Essential Job Functions: This list is illustrative, but not exhaustive for this position.
-Provides direct service to the public, in person or over the telephone
-Assists patrons by accurately checking in and out library materials and monitors assistance needed at the self-checkout
-Assists patrons with reserving study rooms and conference rooms
-Provides general information about the library, refers patrons to appropriate personnel for assistance
-Checks in interlibrary delivery bins, processes holds, and packs outgoing bins.
-Inputs new patron registrations and updates patron records
-Collects, counts and verifies all monies.
-Checks email during every shift and reads Branching Out, GCPL Facebook, Staff Intranet, and Library bulletin board to stay informed
-Maintains copy machine and cash register.
-Knows policies, procedures and safety training
Library tasks performed on a regular basis:
-Reconciles daily cash register money and sends in delivery.
-Maintains clean appearance of circulation desk and staff kitchen.
-Prints and processes daily hold shelf reports
-Performs necessary tasks involved in opening and closing building.
Performs the following tasks as required:
-Empties book drop as needed on closed days.
-Attends required and continuing education classes
-Handles voter registration paperwork
-Orders supplies, processes mail, mend items as needed.
-Assists patrons with copy/fax machine
-Schedules meeting rooms
-Oversees display of public information in lobby
-Performs monthly Safety Inspection of building
-Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Characteristics:
-Willingness and adaptability to work in a changing work environment. Observes all PERRP procedures.
-Must have basic computer skills.
-Ability to use and maintain office machines including personal computer and cash register.
-Ability to meet, talk to and work well with the public and staff.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
-High school diploma or equivalent.
-Previous experience with Sirsi Dynix Workflows required.
-Successful completion of background check.
Physical Requirements:
-Work is generally performed in an office-like environment but with need for mobility: bending, stooping, stretching and sitting at a variety of desks and services points with or without mobility aids.
-Ability to lift at least 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds with or without assistance.
-Ability to move and maneuver full book carts, which may involve pushing, pulling, or using assistive devices
-Competence in completing tasks that involve reading or visual inspection, with or without visual aids.
