GENERAL SUMMARY
The Collection Development Coordinator performs a variety of administrative duties as related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of centralized collection development.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Knowledge of library services and operations.
2. Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science.
3. Knowledge of best practices in collection development that fosters intellectual freedom; balanced, diverse, and inclusive collections; proper budgetary management; and related topics.
4. Knowledge of customer interests related to Library materials, programs, and services.
5. Skill in customer service principles, practices, and programs.
6. Ability to apply Collection Development policies to community and customer collection needs.
7. Ability to plan, implement, and manage change within the agency, division, and/or organization.
8. Ability to use a computer and job-related software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job, which may include, but not be limited to, email/calendar software, internet/intranet browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and various systems of software used by Akron-Summit County Public Library.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serves as a key member of management; understands the organization, financials, industry, customers, and strategy.
2. Supervises employees, provides direction, coaches, trains and develops, hires, and manages performance to organization goals and expectations.
3. Manages budgets and resources effectively and efficiently; knows and understands organization’s financial position.
4. Manages vendors and outside service providers effectively; sets expectations and holds them accountable.
5. Coordinates system-wide collection development functions, including budgeting and material selection in all formats.
6. Designs and implements system-wide policies and procedures as they relate to collection development and management.
7. Reviews, recommends revisions to, and administers the Library’s Collection Development Policy.
8. Sets strategy and develops short- and long-range plans for achieving system-wide and individual agency collection goals.
9. Remains current with publishing trends and best-sellers, and with specialty areas such as out-of-print book trade, e-content, and foreign language materials.
10. Regularly reviews collections of each agency, including semi-annual onsite reviews, and organizes and directs systematic weeding projects for all agencies.
11. Communicates and collaborates with Technical Services and Librarians in a variety of areas, including individual agency collections, readers advisory, marketing and merchandising Library materials and resources, and employee committees.
12. Communicates and collaborates with the Integrated Library Systems Specialist to compile and analyze data.
13. Shares information with employees on collection development trends, decisions, and services.
14. Assesses collection usage, develops replacement programs, and teaches and manages collection maintenance techniques.
15. Prepares statistical and other reports and analyses.
16. Participates in request for reconsideration processes and responses.
17. Works collaboratively as a member of the Public Services Team on projects related to Library use and contributes regularly to Administrative teams.
18. Assists customers at public service desks, as needed.
19. Participates as a representative of the Library at local and state professional conferences, meetings, and workshops.
20. Complies with Akron-Summit County Public Library’s policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, supervisor expectations, and confidentiality.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Education: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science is required.
• Certifications or licensure: Public Librarian certification is preferred.
• Years of relevant experience: 5 to 7 or more years is preferred.
• Years of experience supervising: 2 to 5 years is preferred.
• A valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and reliable personal transportation is required.
• Pre-employment drug screening is not required.
• Criminal background and education verification checks are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS – LIGHT
1. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of offices, which includes the need for general safe workplace practices with office equipment and computers, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
2. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
3. This work is performed in an office setting although off-site meetings in various settings occur.
4. Lifting light objects (less than 25 pounds) and carrying them short distances (50 feet or less) is required.
5. May require working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
6. Some local travel by personal automobile is required. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
