The Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library Local History Librarian is the primary person responsible for providing specialized local history services to the public. These services include reference, programs, and maintaining and growing the physical and digital collection. This position develops and nurtures partnerships with outside organizations, such as local historical and genealogical societies. Candidates must have excellent skills in the areas of research, customer service, problem-solving and teamwork.

Librarians provide reference services, instruct in the use of technology and library equipment, look for service needs in our community, develop programming, and provide outreach services. They also occasionally act as the person in charge of the building.
We work closely with the Cleveland Heights-University Heights communities to advance the goals of the Library and our community.

Job Requirements:
Master's degree in either library science or a relevant field, or equivalent education, knowledge and experience in local history, archives or genealogy work.
Ability to create new digital collections in the Ohio Memory online archive.
Ability to effectively provide excellent customer service to diverse populations.
Empathy such as ability to build rapport, listen, understand customer and coworkers’ needs, and ability to see multiple perspectives.
Knowledgeable of reference resources and have the desire to help customers of all age groups when and where they need assistance.
Excellent technology skills and aptitude for helping customers with computer programs such as Microsoft Office and web-based programs such as Overdrive eMedia. Experience using SIRSI, Bibliocommons, Ancestry.com, census data and other databases is preferable.
Exercise good judgment as an In Charge person of the building as needed.
Train and supervise potential volunteers.
Valid Driver's license and transportation required.
Public library experience helpful.

Salary & Benefits
The annual salary range starts at $19.40 per hour, annually $40,352.00 but will consider commensurate knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, we pay 4% of your 10% OPERS contribution and provide health insurance, life insurance, ten paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave benefits, including six weeks of paid parental leave. Schedules will include daytime, evening, and weekend shifts for a 40-hour workweek.
