The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a full-time Social Media Specialist to join the Library’s External Relations team. The position reports to the External Relations Manager, and under their guidance the SM Specialist will develop, execute and maintain a variety of social media strategies and campaigns in support of the Library’s Strategic Plan.

This newly-created position will allow the right individual a unique opportunity to design new strategies to promote the Library’s events, activities, programs, resources and services, building on the Library’s brand by extending its social media base. The ideal candidate will have professional experience working with an editorial calendar, conducting social media research, benchmarking, identifying diverse audiences, and analyzing best practices for social media delivery and engagement.

Additionally, candidates should be skilled at creating, editing, and publishing content on a variety of social media platforms, and using scheduling software and other production tools/resources.

Essential Job Duties

· Develops, maintains, and executes social media strategy, editorial calendar, and post scheduling for the Library’s social media channels through use of various social media platforms and scheduling software, under the direction of the External Relations Manager.

· Continuously improves the Library’s social media presence through research, benchmarking, audience identification, and analysis of appropriate social media data, metrics, insights, and best practices and builds findings into strategy to increase the effectiveness of campaigns.

· Creates, edits, and publishes social media content that supports Library services and communicates Library strategy with direction from the External Relations Manager.

· Promotes and ensures consistency of the Library’s brand and provides a friendly, accurate, and professional voice for the Library in the social media space.

· Identifies, recommends, and leverages the appropriate social media tools, sites, and applications.

· Keeps up-to-date on local, state and national major pop culture trends, happenings,

events, and activities and leverages them to promote the Library as an engaged and relevant community institution.

· Leverages state and national Library initiatives and events such as National Library Week, Summer Challenge, and Library Card Week to promote the Library and raise awareness of its staff, services, resources, and impact.

· Supports and strengthens the Library’s partnerships by monitoring and amplifying community partner content and engaging with Library partners and affinity groups on social media.

· Monitors social media outlets, pages, sites, blogs, etc. on a daily basis to protect the Library brand and answers questions, clarifies misunderstandings, and mitigates any potential crisis situations.

· Represents the Library at community events. Assists with special projects and events, after-hours and on weekends, as assigned.

Job Qualifications

· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from a two-year or four-year college or university and two years related professional social media management experience. Creativity and excellent proofreading and grammar skills essential.

· Demonstrates strong skills with various social media platforms, including but not limited to Hootsuite, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios to achieve identified results.

· Demonstrates knowledge of social media scheduling tools, analytic tools, and the Internet.

· Experience with video recording, photography equipment, and editing software.

· Knowledge of and experience with desktop publishing software, e-mail, word processing, database management, graphic design software, and HTML required.

· Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patrons, managers, coworkers, and members of the community. Ability to apply active listening skills. Ability to deal effectively with confrontational individuals and/or challenging situations.

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as policies and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively when addressing individuals and groups.

Compensation and Benefits: The starting hourly wage is $19.99. A full benefits package is offered that includes health, dental, vision and life insurance, OPERS retirement, and paid time off.
