The Digital Scholarship Partner is responsible for managing a balanced portfolio of four key activities in support of the programs of the Freedman Center for Digital Scholarship Team: (1) programming and coding support and research collaboration; (2) data analysis and machine learning support and research collaboration; (3) exploration of emerging digital scholarship tools, technologies, techniques, and applications; (4) digital scholarship instruction and partner engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Programming and coding support and research collaboration: Consult and partner with faculty, staff, and student researchers to: provide expertise in programming and coding for data mining, organizing and transforming data into structures and advise on research data quality. Communicate with partners to understand and advise on integrating data content into digital project development and management (including tools and software). Meet regularly with researchers to learn about their research goals, needs, and interests, and determine how best to build digital scholarship partnerships across campus. (20%)

2. Data analysis and machine learning support and research collaboration. Consult faculty, staff, and student researchers on data mining, organization, and statistical analysis. Consult with partners on their use exploratory data analysis, statistics, and predicting through machine learning. Demonstrate an interest in learning as field adapts. (20%)

3. Emerging digital scholarship tools, technologies, techniques, and applications. Engage in research and development to expand use of digital scholarship tools and techniques, including advanced data and text analysis, including machine learning, statistical, and exploratory data analysis techniques. Regularly engage in discussions with faculty, staff, and students about emerging digital scholarship resources and technologies. Demonstrate experience with common programming languages, for example Python or R. (20%)

4. Digital scholarship instruction and partner engagement. Provide high-quality instruction on digital scholarship tools, programming languages, and data analysis to facilitate teaching, learning, and research across the University. Educate and engage with faculty, staff, and students to provide coding consulting services and to forge new collaborations and relationships that extend the Libraries’ role as central to the university’s digital scholarship needs. (20%)

5. Design and maintain web-based informational sites; develop a collection of electronic and print resources within the area of digital scholarship. (6%)

6. Work closely with other team members to foster collaborative initiatives. (13%)

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensing: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, with completion of a second advanced degree within an area of specialization preferred; BA/BS in a relevant discipline.

Experience: The initial rank of the Digital Scholarship Partner will be based upon the qualifications of the individual with regard to that person's professional knowledge, abilities and skills; contributions to the profession through service and scholarly endeavors; and, professional qualities consistent with university and library values.

Demonstrate understanding of the external environments, cultures, and interrelationship of the library. An effective ambassador for the library and able to interact regularly with others on campus.
Professional Contributions. Contribute to the library profession and building a reputation for professional contributions through committee service and professional publications or presentations to professional organizations at the local, regional, or national level.
Professional Qualities. An inquisitive self-starter who works well both independently and as a member of organizational teams. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face. Ability to meet consistent attendance.
