JOB SUMMARY Plan and manage the operations of the Collection Management, Acquisitions, and High Demand Departments.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university.

Experience:
Seven years post-MLS library experience including five years' experience handling materials selection and acquisitions in Technical Services.
Three years supervisory/lead worker experience in a union environment.

Technical Expertise:
Strong Business Math
Strong Business English
Intermediate Knowledge in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Advanced knowledge in ILS software
Able to prepare and understand reports

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:

1. Select physical books, non-book materials, and OverDrive eBooks and eAudiobooks for the library system.
2. Provide centralized selection of library materials for the Popular Library, Main Library Youth Services, and Branches.
3. Ensure that library materials are ordered and received in a timely manner and invoices are processed for payment.
4. Ensure highly popular, high-volume library materials are cataloged and added in a timely manner.
5. Work with vendors to select, purchase, and receive materials for CPL.
6. Prepare annual budget for branch collection development.
7. Collaborate with managers and staff across the library.
8. Supervisory responsibilities such as discipline, contract administration, schedules, hiring, terminations, and timecards.
9. Promote professional development through appropriate educational and organizational activities.
10. Coordinate efforts between specified areas and other departments.
11. Work with internal and external committees.
12. Compiles and interprets statistics.
13. Performs clerical tasks including copying, sorting, handling correspondence, filing, word processing, answering the telephone using good telephone etiquette, maintaining office equipment, and recording statistics of work performed.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

1. The library environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of offices, which includes the need for general safe workplace practices with office equipment and computers, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
2. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
3. This position is performed in an office setting although frequent offsite meetings in various settings may occur.
4. There is no set schedule for this position due to the requirements to attend meetings and events before or after normal workings hours and occasionally on weekends and evenings.
5. Lift light objects less than 20 pounds and carry them short distances 20 feet or less.
6. Reach overhead and bend/kneel to shelve books weighing up to three pounds.
7. Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time while performing a variety of tasks.
8. Perform repetitive hand, arm, and body movements, including lifting books on a continuous basis for up to an eight hour shift.
