Northeast Ohio Regional Library System - Event Information

Event Name:
Adult SRP: Color Our World

Competency:
Programming

Description:
Be inspired by Color Our World, NEO-RLS's adult summer reading workshop. Let's start by getting to know each other through paint chips and generate some program ideas.  You will hear presentations on Trivia Nights, Passive Programs, and Marketing to Adults.  There will be a chance to hear from library presenters, share presenter ideas, and so much more. After lunch, we will be hosting a program palooza. You will have an opportunity to hear 6 different programs and ask questions. We will end the day with a round table discussion and a presentation from Katy Hite on the CSLP.  More details will be coming soon. Don't miss this fun-filled day and opportunity to connect with your colleagues.

Create, Connect, Compete: Using Trivia to Build Community
Pub-style trivia is engaging and fun, but it can also be expensive to bring to the library.
In this presentation you will learn how in 2024 Rocky River Public Library developed a monthly Trivia Night series. It will cover everything from getting started, to running the event and everything in between. You will leave with ideas for themes, prizes, and the confidence to host a Summer Reading Themed trivia program.

 Presenter:
Megan Alabaugh is an Adult Services Librarian at Rocky River. She has been at RRPL since 2007, where she completed a practicum for her MLIS through Kent State University and just stayed. This school year marks the first time in 15 years that she is not the Teen Librarian.  When it's not her turn to host trivia, Megan runs a True Crime Discussion group, maintains the Reference Departments book subscription program, and plans civics-themed programs throughout the year.

Engage, Excite, Inspire: Marketing Summer Reading to Adults
In this 30-minute session, discover strategies to engage your community, excite them about participation, and inspire lifelong connections with the library. From innovative outreach tactics to crafting messages that resonate, this will equip you with practical tools to elevate your library's adult programming through marketing.

Presenter:
Angela Vaughn (she/her) is the Digital Marketing and Adult Programming Manager for Salem Public Library in Salem, OH. Passionate about fostering connection and belonging in public libraries, Angela creates programming and marketing strategies to engage diverse audiences and promote lifelong learning. She holds an MLIS from Kent State University, lives in Northeast Ohio, and can often be found waxing poetic about the importance of public libraries to anyone who will listen.

No Strings Attached – Passive Program Fun for Busy Adults
Adulting is busy work, but having fun is important no matter one’s age! Join us as we explore some fun ways adults can engage in passive programs in the library without time or date commitments. Timed Puzzle Contests, Art Trivia, Giant Boggle, Group Art Projects, and more will provide opportunities for fun for busy adults in your library this summer!

Presenter:
Terry Tocchi is the Programming and Community Relations Specialist at the Canal Fulton Public Library. A Youth Services Librarian for many years, she switched tracks into adult services in 2023. Terry has been an Advisory Team Member with Choose to Read Ohio since 2010. Passionate about libraries and the services they provide to all ages, she’s finding that adults are really just grown up kids who still like to have fun in the library!
