Event Description
Libraries can be active hubs for life-changing transformation. For the millions of adults who struggle with reading, writing, or digital navigation, the local library is often the only free, safe, and judgment-free resource available. Please join us for our Adult Literacy Workshop which is intended for public library staff interested in adult literacy, and our aim is to host a day of connection, conversation and sharing. We hope to build a network of library staff interested in adult literacy, regardless of library size. We acknowledge that all libraries may have different needs, so we hope to bring interested groups together to learn from each other.  Below are the sessions included in the day.

Read for Life: Learn about this unique Adult Literacy program at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. Read for Life Coordinator Kristy Szkudlarek will share the program’s history, explain the intake and assessment process, and explain how tutors are carefully recruited and trained to help learners succeed. You’ll learn about our core program offerings, including High School Equivalency (HSE), U.S. Citizenship, English as a Second Language, reading, and Life Skills.

Serving International & Multilingual Learners: In this session, you’ll learn practical and respectful ways to serve international and multilingual learners.

Community Connections and Resources:  Adult Services Library Consultant Katy Hite will share ideas to help you find literacy connectors in your community, resources for strengthening your offerings for literacy in your library and more.

Lastly, with time permitting we will end the day with a roundtable discussion for adult services.

Presenters:
