Communication and Leadership

This webinar focuses on the foundations of effective meetings: why we meet, when we should not meet, and how to create clarity before anyone enters the room.

Participants will explore three key questions to ask before every meeting and consider how meeting purpose, agenda design and participation choices can reduce fatigue and improve outcomes.

We will also look at meeting culture — including why people attend meetings they do not need to be in, why unclear meetings create stress, and how kinder, clearer structures can support better work.

Learning Objectives:

• Identify when a meeting is needed and when another form of communication would be better.
• Use three key planning questions to clarify the purpose and value of a meeting.
• Design clearer agendas that support focus, preparation and decision-making.
• Recognize common causes of meeting fatigue and meeting overload.
• Apply simple strategies to make meetings more purposeful, efficient and respectful of people’s time.
• Reflect on their own meeting culture and identify one practical change they can make immediately.

Presenter:

Helen Rimmer is the founder of The Kind Brave Leader and Empower: The Library Skills Collective. She is a kindness and wellbeing coach, facilitator, Strengthscope Master, certified systemic team coach, and holds a PGCert in the Psychology of Kindness and Wellbeing at Work. Helen brings over 20 years’ experience in library and higher education leadership, alongside her work supporting individuals, teams and organizations to build kinder, braver and more sustainable workplaces. Her work focuses on kindness-led leadership, burnout prevention, boundaries, wellbeing, inclusion and creating humane cultures of work.
