A Note From the
Executive Director

How often do you hear, “Have you read, watched, listened to anything good lately?” Well, at our recent Marketing/PR Advisory Group meeting, it was suggested that we reach out to our vast NEO-RLS community for book, podcast, and article recommendations.

Whether it is related to libraries, professional development, self-care, or just an amazing work of fiction, we would love to gather and share the resources that have inspired and influenced you.

Please email recommendations to me at ragan.snead@neo-rls.org. Feel free to describe and explain why you found the content valuable. Recommendations will be shared in future newsletters.

Have a great day!

Children's Summer Reading Committee Meeting

If you are interested in assisting with planning the children's summer reading workshop please join us on Tuesday, November 14th at 2:30 pm via Zoom.  Email  Melissa Lattanzi if you are interested.

The State Library is hosting a webinar Thursday, November 9 at 3:30 p.m. on Building Diverse Holiday Collections

When the snow starts to fall, you can count on holiday displays popping up in most libraries, schools, and bookstores in America. With TeachingBooks’ Collection Analysis Tool, you can take a deeper look at the titles featured in your December displays and booklists. In this workshop, we will collectively analyze a holiday display, then identify new and diverse titles for inclusion. Registrants will walk away with a conscientious, informed list of diverse holiday titles, as well as an action plan that details how to implement those titles in their existing collections.

Register here for access to the Ohio Collection Analysis Initiative.

Naturally Inclusive

A webinar with Dr. Ruth Wilson

Wednesday, November 15, 2:00 pm ET

CSLP’s Inclusion Committee invites you to a free webinar with Dr. Ruth Wilson, author of Naturally Inclusive: Engaging Children of All Abilities Outdoors.  This topic aligns very well with the upcoming 2024 Adventure Begins at Your Library theme. Dr. Wilson will cover how libraries can ensure they're connecting young children with special needs to that natural world.  Ruth's concepts can also be applied across multiple aspects of diversity and inclusion.

Registration Opens on November 10

Holden Forests & Gardens is pleased to be able to once again offer our Tree Tale Teller program to NE Ohio libraries in Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties.

Due to the overwhelming interest, we do need to limit it to these counties and to programs targeted at toddler-early elementary. My volunteers come to your library around Arbor Day and present a special Story Time talking about the importance of plants and trees. All volunteers go through a training based on ECRR, are provided with high-quality materials selected by me, and nearly all have experience in daycares, schools, or libraries.

If you are interested in having us come out this April, please fill out this form. Space is limited and only the first 20 libraries will have a guaranteed slot and we may need to limit based on geographic location if you are in the same system as another library that applies. If you have any questions, please reach out to Marisha Sullivan, HF&G Librarian, at msullivan@holdenfg.org
