The NASA Glenn Research Center Office of STEM Engagement is soliciting proposals from youth-serving organizations and formal/informal education institutions to receive professional development and implement NASA STEM content. This opportunity allows each organization to submit a brief proposal for collaboration with NASA with an option to request funding for up to $2,000.00 for materials to implement the content with students.

As airport traffic increases, cities are faced with difficult choices, the health, and quality of life of residents living near airports against the greater good of their region’s economy. Since the 1960s, NASA engineers have worked to reduce generated aircraft noise. One way NASA engineers contribute to the reduction of aircraft noise is through acoustic liners. Acoustic liners are devices mounted in the walls of an aircraft’s engine to absorb rotor noise and fan noise generated by the engine. Liners mounted in current commercial aircraft engines are almost exclusively honeycomb structures. Designing and testing new ways to create acoustic liners to further dampen aircraft noise is a prime area of research at several NASA Centers, including the Glenn Research Center.

NASA Glenn’s Office of STEM Engagement has developed a new engineering design challenge (EDC) called Sound Off that guides students through the engineering design process. Students must design, test, and improve acoustic liners to reduce the sound volume produced by a speaker. This solicitation is requesting proposals to implement Sound Off  with students in grades 5-9.

Seeking external community partners for 21st Century Community Learning Centers

The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) program provides opportunities for children who come from economically disadvantaged families and attend low-performing schools to receive academic supports. This federally funded grant program supports high-quality, out-of-school time learning opportunities and related activities for students who attend eligible schools. Public libraries interested in becoming potential partners with CCLC should send their profiles to the ODE by July 28 at 5 p.m. ODE uses the profiles to collect, screen and publish a list of organizations for partnerships with current and future CCLC programs.
