A Note From the
Executive Director

The NEO-RLS Membership Discussion: How to Get Involved event was held yesterday. It was explained that NEO-RLS depends on the participation of its members for governance, input on continuing education and services, and continuous feedback through its Board of Trustees, Board Committees, and Advisory Groups.

We are committed to developing these groups to accurately reflect the diversity of the membership we serve, bringing a range of perspectives and experiences to the decision-making process. When these groups are composed of individuals from diverse backgrounds, they are better equipped to identify and address the challenges faced by the organization.

Based on the questions and feedback from the discussion, I would like to highlight the following:

  • These opportunities are open to all library staff working in a NEO-RLS member library, regardless of position.

  • You do not need to be an expert on the topic to join an Advisory Group or Board Committee. Perspectives from all levels and experiences are valued and appreciated.

  • These opportunities are a great way to network with peers, gain professional development, and have an impact on the Northeast Ohio library community.

For those who were unable to attend the live discussion, the following volunteer opportunities are available:

Advisory Groups include Continuing Education, Marketing/PR, Special Libraries, Technology, and Youth Services.

Standing Board Committees include Awards, Bylaws/Policy, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategies, and Finance.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for helping guide the organization's direction and ensuring it meets its goals. The following seats are open for nominations through April 30, 2023:

Zone 2 - $4,000,000 - $17, 499,999
(two seats)

Zone 4 - $800,000 - $1,499,999
(two seats)
