It is the first week of spring and April is just around the corner! That means that Dynamic Dialogue: Push Back against Book Challenges is only 2 weeks away, on Wednesday, April 5th at the Hilton Garden Inn in Twinsburg, OH. Whether you are currently dealing with book challenges at your library or are preparing for the possibility of future challenges, this conference will be a great learning experience and networking opportunity for you. 

 

Sessions will cover a wide variety of topics relevant to positions across the library organization including collection development, front-line strategies, policy development, and crisis management.

Notary Training Announced:

Save the dates once again Roger Rill, President of the Society of Notaries will be conducting training on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Ashland Public Library and Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Canfield Library.  The in-person, 3-hour class and exam for new notary applicants is $130. The class also meets the renewal training requirement (for those expiring within a year), or anyone wanting a refresher that cost is $75.  Registration coming soon.

Potential Implications for Library Services Across the State

ChatGPT and other generative AI platforms have thrust us into a new world of technologies that are amazing, but also slightly alarming. Dr. Christopher Harris, School Library System Director for Genesee Valley (NY) BOCES and Senior Fellow with the American Library Association, will introduce and explain the technology that drives ChatGPT and explore potential uses in different types of libraries. Applications for public libraries to host a Guiding Ohio Online Technology Trainer are due March 20, 2023. 

Guiding Ohio Online is a State Library LSTA funded program created to assist libraries serving rural populations. Guiding Ohio Online Technology Trainers help Ohioans develop the skills needed to fully participate in the digital age.  

 

 

The Ohio State Fair partners with the State Library of Ohio to provide an incentive coupon to support Ohio public libraries’ summer library programs, good for one FREE admission to the Ohio State Fair for ages 5-18.

INFOhio’s new Create, Lead, Empower Ohio (CLEO) toolkit is a curated collection of resources supporting K-12 students' growth through personalized learning, career exploration, and employability skills practice. Developed for K-12 educators to use with students, the toolkit is also of interest at the public library, for possible program development and to share with students and teachers.
