Lepper Library seeks a creative individual to join our team as Youth Librarian. The successful candidate will manage the department while working closely with the library’s director and other staff. They will provide innovative approaches to library services for children and families in the community. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Plan, coordinate, order and maintain collections of materials for children & teens
- Plan and execute children’s and teen programming based on sound child development principles, current educational practices, emerging technologies, and popular youth trends
- Promotes use of the collection by students, adults and teachers, including library visits by school classes and preschools, outreach programs and teen groups
- Provide reader’s advisory, reference and library instructional training
- Plan and administer the children’s and teen’s budgets including funds for materials, and programs
- Help identify and write minor grant applications related to children and teen materials and services
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and supports library goals and objectives

Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science preferred or a Master’s in Education and experience working with children in a formal setting. The candidate must have solid knowledge of computer skills, social media, emerging technologies, digital formats and the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. A strong customer service philosophy is important including a personality that connects well with children and teens. Having self-motivation and the ability to prioritize varied tasks is necessary. Also, being able to effectively network and represent the library to children, parents, educators, and businesses.

This position is full-time, 36 hours per week and includes some evening and Saturday work. The starting salary is $18.00 per hour with a 25¢ increase after the six month probationary period and a favorable evaluation. The position also includes holiday pay, vacation, personal days, sick leave and 80% paid medical insurance.
