The Marvin Memorial Library Board of Trustees seeks an enthusiastic and experienced leader to be the new voice of the library within the community and serve as its next Library Director. As a 125 year staple in Shelby, MML honors our tradition of community service while moving forward, embracing change, and trying new things. The director will work with the seven member board, seven FTE, six PTE, a $1.4 million budget, and a single facility to ensure its patrons have access to historical, recreational, educational, and cultural materials free of charge. Key initiatives include promoting the library to a new generation of lifelong learners, working with the board to develop a strategic plan, helping the library keep pace with technological trends, and leading and supporting staff through open communication and collaboration.
As a school district library, MML serves the community of Shelby and the surrounding areas, with a service population of 12,721. In 2022 MML offered 659 programs and activities to the community with an attendance of 12,960 people, and circulated over of 61,000 items. Shelby, Ohio – home of the seamless tube industry – offers the comfort of small-town life, with easy access to Mansfield, Cleveland, and Columbus.
Qualifications: The candidate shall possess an advanced degree, preferably an MLS, or equivalent in experience and training. The candidate shall have experience in supervision/leadership and general administrative skills, in long range planning, be able to deal directly with library patrons, present a positive, friendly, and professional image to patrons and staff. The candidate must be able to work without direct supervision, work with Board of Trustee members, and must have excellent communication skills as well as computer literacy including knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet preparation.
Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Library Board of Trustees, the Director will serve as the chief administrator of the library and shall plan, implement, and evaluate the development of the library, its services, and its staff, to meet the needs of the community. Compensation: Salary commensurate and negotiable dependent on experience and qualifications.
