DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ASCPL is hiring a Deputy Director to support our Mission Statement to provide resources for learning and leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages that support, improve, and enrich individual, family, and community life. The Deputy Director will exhibit and support our Core Values of Excellence, Service, Learning, and Diversity and Inclusion.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Library system, the Deputy Director is responsible for the overall day-to-day public service operations of Main Library and 18 branch libraries, system-wide Collection Development, Technical Services, and Youth Services agencies. The position is involved in planning and decision-making for most areas of the Library’s functioning, and provides leadership in the absence of the Executive Director.

Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, supervising employees while providing direction, coaching, training and developing, hiring, and managing performance to organization goals and expectations; ensuring the overall administration and operation of the Library; resolving both routine and non-routine issues in a timely manner; overseeing the preparation and analysis of a variety of reports; participating in the budgeting process; participating in the selection process for all Main Library division management and branch management positions; participating in other personnel decisions; and representing the Library in community organizations and state and national library associations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Required: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. 10 or more years of library experience. At least 5 years of supervisory experience. Eligibility for Ohio Public Librarian Certification. Knowledge of library services and operations. Knowledge of the principles and practices of public library administration. Knowledge of library public services, collection development, and technical services operations. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws pertaining to public library work. Knowledge of the principles of intellectual freedom as they apply to public libraries. Skill in establishing and maintaining system-wide standards of consistency and service excellence. Skill in program and project management. Skill in customer service principles, practices, and programs. Ability to plan, implement, and manage change within the agency, division, and/or organization. Valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and reliable personal transportation.

Preferred: 15 or more years of library experience. 7 or more years of supervisory experience. Ohio Public Librarian Certification.
