GENERAL SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, responsible for the day-to-day monitoring, development, implementation, and support of the Library’s integrated library system. Serves as staff liaison for the library’s integrated library system, providing technical support and training via email, video conferencing, phone, and workshops. Provides timely, system-wide access to collections by creating discoverable metadata for all materials and all related maintenance work.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

· Experience working with Integrated Library System software.

· Knowledge of principles, theories and concepts of library science and the principles and practices of metadata creation and maintenance. Including RDA, LCSH, Dewey classification, Bibframe and other current and emerging standards.

· Ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills for coordinating special projects and collaborating with various departments.

· Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision making to integrate organizational priorities, meet deadlines, and achieve objectives.

· Proficiency with programming scripting languages and SQL, able to create custom queries, reports, and views.

· Knowledge of the principles and methods of web technologies, tools, and delivery systems, including web security, privacy policy practices, and user interface issues.

· Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical staff.

· Knowledge of computer platforms and architectures applicable to the Library environment.

· Ability to determine, recommend and implement information systems solutions that support the library’s requirements, goals and strategies.

· Ability to examine processes from the point of view of customers and staff, with a focus on usability and function. Ability to recognize organizational or procedural opportunities within customer feedback and communicate to appropriate staff and/or vendor.

· Skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with co-workers, customers, vendors, and/or representatives of other agencies.

· Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions, including the ability to successfully prioritize both emergency and non-emergency issues.

· Skill in exercising an advanced level of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision making to integrate organizational priorities, meet deadlines, and achieve objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

· Complies with Cuyahoga County Public Library’s policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work

scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, and confidentiality.

· Functions as the Integrated Library System software expert. Includes monitoring performance of the system and developing strategies for changes, enhancements, testing, maintenance of databases and tables and upgrades as required, in conjunction with other Technical Service, Information Technology, and Branch Services staff. Serves as primary point of contact for ILS-related issues, and as liaison to staff and vendors.

· Recommends, tests and implements software solutions and updates, creates and maintains software documentation.

· Develops, maintains, troubleshoots, and supports the usability, design, and integrity of the library’s online catalog and assists with its discovery in other public access search interfaces.

· Creates metadata to describe library materials (both original and complex copy) including subject analysis, assignment of call number, and the assignment of relevant name and title access points in the library’s international bibliographic utility and in the library’s integrated library system. Downloads, edits and loads records for electronic resources.

· Supports the configuration, implementation and maintenance of the library’s authentication software/service.

· Participates in application selection, development and support projects. Researches new and emerging technologies, trends, and solutions that advance the usability and functionality of the Library’s interfaces. Provides advice and suggestions to management regarding new applications or services.

· Participates in project teams responsible for properly identifying requirements and ensuring the delivery of application solutions on an on-time and on-budget basis.

· Ability to understand the difference between confidential and sensitive information and handle each appropriately.

Summary Minimum Education & Experience Required

· Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school.

· At least two years of related experience. Experience in a multi-server, multi-agency, integrated application environment such as a large library is preferred.

· A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

OTHER TESTING/LICENSES REQUIRED

· A criminal background check is required, as are pre-employment drug and nicotine screens.

· A valid driver’s license, personal transportation and in-force automobile insurance are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

· No major sources of working conditions discomfort, i.e. standard work environment with possible minor inconveniences due to occasional noise, crowded working conditions, and/or minor heating, cooling or ventilation problems.

· Occasional minor discomforts from near-continual computer terminal use.
