POSITION: Librarian I: Local History (Part-Time)
REPORTS TO: Librarian II: Adult Services Supervisor and/or Director
SCHEDULE: Twenty-eight hours per week with applicable benefits.
RATE: $17.30/hour

DEFINITION
This nonexempt employee is employed by the Board of Trustees and is responsible to the Director and Adult Services Librarian. This librarian performs a variety of moderate to highly complex technical and administrative tasks requiring considerable thought and analysis related to the delivery of public library services and operations for the Local History Room.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with organization, planning and developing programs in the Local History Room and within the community.
Oversees the shelving and filing of all materials in the Local History Room.
Contributes to the maintenance of the Local History Room as needed.
Performs readers advisory, reference, and resource selection as required.
Supervises use of the Local History Room and its resources by the public.
Assists in the development of brochures, displays and descriptions about local historical objects and collections.
Develops and creates rotating collections on a quarterly basis.
Assists with the digitation of documents and realia in the Local History Room.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Attends meetings relevant to professional responsibilities.
Participates with other staff in maintaining a safe, positive library environment.
Conducts tours and creates other special programs as assigned for the Local History Room.
Maintains professional competency through attendance and participation in workshops and conferences appropriate to professional responsibilities.
Performs other related duties as required by the Adult Services Librarian or Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
A Master Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or university is preferred. Prior experience working or volunteering in a local history museum and/or a genealogy center is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Must have an aptitude and interest in library work and local history
General knowledge of literature for all age groups and online information services.
Good understanding and use of computer technology, the Internet and online searching.
Good communication and organizational skills are essential.
Must be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Must effectively work with groups, present programs, and conduct meetings.
Positive interpersonal skills required to work with other employees and the public.
Works with minimum supervision and uses judgment and discretion in planning and executing programs.
