In preparation for the reopening of the newly renovated Warren Library, two Customer Service Assistant positions are now needed for the Local History & Genealogy Center, one full-time and one part-time. An employee in this role will provide public service, perform clerical tasks, and shelve/maintain materials in the LH&G Center at the Warren Library.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

· Provides public service by orienting new users to the Center, locating and retrieving materials, and answering basic reference questions in person, via email, mail, or telephone.

· Provides basic instruction on the use of the Center’s computers, microform readers, and photocopier machine.

· Provides basic instruction on the use of relevant library databases and assists users in the basics of internet searching, especially in genealogical and historical areas of research.

· Provides information about library services and programs to users of the Center, and to other library visitors.

· Participates in indexing projects as assigned.

· Maintains vertical files –obtaining articles and obituaries, filing, etc.

· Shelves or stores materials; maintains correct arrangement of materials; shifts and straightens materials as necessary.

· Performs clerical tasks such as photocopying, cleaning microfilm readers, ordering supplies, etc.

· Teaching and assisting in the presentation of the genealogy classes offered by the department.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent. College coursework desirable. Knowledge of and interest in genealogical and/or local history research desirable. Knowledge and experience in using computers and various software programs to include MS Word, MS Excel and Adobe Photoshop; experience in searching the Internet.

The Library is seeking to fill one full-time position, and one part-time position (scheduled for 25 hours/week).
