Job Opportunity

Position: Circulation Leader

· Full Time – 40 hours a week – including some evenings and weekends.

· $14.60 per hour

Qualifications:

· College degree preferred. Equivalent work experience considered.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

· Ability to communicate with the TS/Circulation Supervisor about schedule changes, issues, suggestions, information, etc.

· Ability to efficiently use a computer

· Ability to fairly delegate tasks

· Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

· Ability to help in TSD when needed

· Ability to learn computer hardware and software applications used in the library.

· Ability to perform filing and other clerical tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy

· Ability to present a warm, welcoming image in working with the public both in person and on the phone (more than 90% of the workweek).

· Ability to work independently, often without direct supervision.

· Willingness to learn and use library services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Answers directional questions and refers all reference questions and problems to the Information Desk.

· Assigns additional jobs to circulation staff as needed.

· Charges and discharges library materials according to established procedures and empties material return bins regularly.

· Circulation leader will keep TS/Circulation Supervisor informed of any changes, including but not limited to schedule, changes, solutions, issues, etc.

· Clears library tables nightly and keeps reading and new materials display areas in order.

· Collects fines and charges for overdue, lost, or damaged materials.

· Completes the monthly safety check and report. [Replace batteries in flashlights if needed, among other tasks.]

· Completes the OPLIN Support Report, Unique reports, duplicate cards report, and other reports as assigned. [May delegate some reports.]

· Daily reset of people counter

· Maintenance of circulation desk supplies and signage of Library hours and closings.

· Maintenance of library materials (cleaning, mending, replacing cases, shelf reading and straightening, shifting, monthly weeding of newspapers, and other items as assigned).

· Notifies patrons of unclaimed holds.

· Know and relay Circulation and Library policies to patrons.

· Magazine’s donation list. Keep a list of all patrons and magazines, and call when available.

· Order holiday signs and posts two weeks before the holiday. Inform your supervisors when any supplies are running low to reorder more.

· Performs opening and closing duties according to established procedures.

· Performs other related duties as assigned by Technical Services/Circulation Department Supervisor.

· Prepare and mail letters for Overdrive/Libby, Virtual, and physical cards (other mailings as assigned)

· Promptly relays all issues and suggestions to Technical Services/Circulation Department Supervisor.

· Provides on-the-job training for the circulation department and identifies additional training as needed.

· Register borrowers (physical and virtual cards), explain lending rules and follow up by verifying that all borrowers’ information is correct on the computer (including physical, virtual cards, etc.).

· Renews (expired registrations and library materials).

· Reserves all holds

· Schedules, supervises, maintains, and delegates workflow of all clerical duties at the Circulation desk.

· Strong working knowledge of the library’s ILS (Integrated Library System).

· Tracks flex-time hours, approves schedule changes of the entire circulation staff and endorses and verifies timesheets.

· Upholds and enforces library policies and procedures

· Verifies bi-monthly timesheets.

· Verifies voter registration is complete.

· Weed out “virtual cards.”

· Weekly overdue and lost notices.

· Weekly/monthly statistical reports

· Other duties as assigned (including assisting your supervisor with any assigned tasks)

· Order close and open signs for the library (post sign two weeks before date)

Effort Required:

· Ability to perform repetitive tasks.

· Agility and strength for pushing loaded book trucks and shelving and retrieving library materials stored from near floor level to 90” high.

· Much lifting and carrying of stacks of books and similar weights up to 25 lbs.

· Must be able to travel off-site for training and other job-related activities.

· Must be able to work with frequent interruptions.

· Requires attention to visual detail and manual dexterity to handle computer mouse, keyboard, printer, label maker, and other office equipment.

· Work generally requires standing and walking over 90% of the time
