Job Summary
The Getty Research Institute seeks an experienced and forward-thinking Head, Library Collections and Resource Management (Manager II) to provide management and direction for all activities, staff, and budgets involved with selecting, ordering, purchasing, receiving, and making accessible the current, antiquarian, and rare print monographs, serials and electronic resources that comprise the Getty Library's growing research collections

Reporting to the Chief Librarian, this senior library manager oversees a team of 20 staff (librarians and paraprofessionals) in two units: Library Collection Development & Acquisitions and Bibliographic Cataloging, plus additional project-based contract catalogers.

The ideal candidate will have skills and knowledge in all aspects of technical services including e-resource management, emerging metadata standards, a broad range of acquisitions programs, linked data technology, and open access.

The Getty Research Institute is dedicated to furthering knowledge and advancing awareness of the visual arts and their various histories through its expertise, ongoing collecting program, public programs, institutional partnerships, exhibitions, publications, digital services, and residential scholars programs. Among the world's premier art libraries, the Getty Library and its Special Collections include over 1.5 million volumes, rare materials, and digital resources, which serve a vast international community of scholars and the interested public. The Institute's activities and scholarly resources guide and sustain each other and collectively provide a unique environment for research, critical inquiry, and scholarly exchange. The Getty Library uses the Ex Libris suite of hosted products: Alma, Primo, and Rosetta.



Major Job Responsibilities
Provide management, coordinated strategic vision, and direction for the department (units in charge of resource acquisition and access, including print resources, electronic resources and licensing, metadata and cataloging) and the library as a whole, working closely with the Chief Librarian, staff and colleagues, including senior library managers (especially those in Special Collections Management, Research Services) and others across the Getty.
Plan short-term and long-term goals for handling traditional library technical services activities, including aligning staff and space requirements for large backlogs and incoming collections via donation or purchase.
Review, maintain, improve, and/or initiate workflows for optimal outcomes.
Oversee projects &/or staff involved with the preparation of metadata for contributions to Getty-run and external partnership projects.
Monitor and share knowledge of trends and best practices in metadata and cataloging.
Manage cooperative collections negotiations with relevant consortia.
Participate, advise, and represent the Department, the Library, and the Getty on internal and external teams and projects.
Oversee considerations of reparative work through critical cataloging and develop a departmental action plan.
Serve as the primary liaison for outsourcing vendors related to the Department's activities.
Communicate with staff and key stakeholders with openness and transparency, ensuring that the team understands the overall department, library, GRI, and Getty priorities and context


Qualifications
MLIS from ALA-accredited institution, additional graduate work and/or expertise in relevant subject area a plus
7 years professional experience with a minimum 5 years' supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated success in managing the workflow of one or more technical services units: collection development, cataloging, digitization, metadata, acquisitions, serials management, and electronic resources.
Experience planning and overseeing a complex budget for acquisitions, project, and outsourcing costs.
Familiarity with information technology, standards, and trends in acquisitions and cataloging.
Familiarity with integrated library systems (Ex Libris' Alma or similar).
Ex Libris Alma experience, especially with Resource Management, Acquisitions, and Analytics
Project management experience with evidence of successful outcomes and deliverables.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in ways that center equitable and inclusive practices, team-building, and mentoring skills

Salary Range: 90,362 - 117,473 USD, Yearly Salary
