Shaker Heights Public Library is seeking a collaborative and community-oriented full-time professional to engage organizations and individuals in the community and build partnerships to meet community goals. We are a busy, first-ring suburban library serving a diverse population looking for an energetic, creative, flexible team player with a passionate commitment to equity and inclusion.

The Community Engagement Specialist will develop and maintain community partnerships, identify opportunities for Library participation in local community events, and assist community groups to identify and achieve goals. The Specialist will work as part of the Community Engagement Team and Adult Services Department as well as develop a close working relationship with the Youth Services Department. Responsibilities will include providing reference and readers’ advisory services to customers, and assisting customers in locating, selecting, and reserving library materials. Will serve as Senior Person as assigned.

Strong interpersonal, relationship building, networking and communication skills required. Must have a proven record of community involvement and demonstrated ability to work with the public. Need strong technology skills, a predisposition to collaborate with coworkers and community members, and the ability to adapt to change. Must enjoy working with all kinds of people. Valid Ohio driver’s license required. MLS from an ALA accredited school or a Master’s degree in a field relevant to community work is required.

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week. This position works a variety of day, evening, and weekend hours. Flexibility to attend community events is necessary.

Pay rate: $22.77 per hour. Benefits include health insurance and generous paid time off.
