Shaker Heights Public Library is seeking a highly-motivated and innovative professional for the position of Early Literacy Specialist.
We are a busy, first-ring suburban library serving a diverse population looking for an energetic, creative, and flexible team player with a passionate commitment to service for children and families.
Working within the Youth Services Department, this position coordinates and delivers outreach programming to local preschools and daycare centers. The successful candidate will have experience in early literacy education, outreach work, and programming for young children. Knowledge of youth literature and child development is a must. Responsibilities include reference and readers advisory services in the library, requiring outstanding customer service to people of all ages and developmental stages.
The position requires excellent organization and the ability to work independently. As a representative of the library they must exhibit professionalism, be able to communicate effectively, and build relationships with community partners. The Early Literacy Specialist needs a strong understanding of technology, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and be adaptable to change.
A valid Ohio driver’s license and a Master’s degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field is required.
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week. This position works a variety of day, evening, and weekend hours.
Pay rate: $20.24-$23.78 per hour, depending upon qualifications and experience
