Shaker Heights Public Library is seeking a highly-motivated and innovative professional for the position of Community Engagement Specialist: Youth Services
We are a busy, first-ring suburban library serving a diverse population looking for an energetic, creative, and flexible team player with a passionate commitment to service for children and teens.
The Community Engagement Specialist will develop and maintain community partnerships, identify opportunities for Library participation in community initiatives, and create innovative programming. Responsibilities include reference and readers’ advisory services and assisting customers in locating, selecting, and reserving library materials. They will serve as Senior Person as assigned.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in library services for children and teens, education, and/or youth development along with the ability to engage with schools, youth-oriented organizations, and individuals. They must have a proven record of community involvement and demonstrated ability to work with the public.
The position requires strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills and excellent listening, networking, and communication skills. The Community Engagement Specialist also needs to have strong technology skills, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and be adaptable to change. They must enjoy working with all kinds of people. A Valid Ohio driver's license is required. An MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited school is preferred. Alternatively, a Master's degree in a field relevant to youth or community work will be considered.
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week. This position works a variety of day, evening, and weekend hours. Flexibility to attend community events is necessary.
Pay rate: $20.24-$23.78 per hour, depending upon qualifications and experience
