DESCRIPTION:A Science of Reading Readerâ€™s Advisory Overview for All Staff\n\n09/10/26 10:00 AM EST\n - 09/10/26 11:00 AM EST\Description:\nThe Science of Reading requirement for schools in Ohio is leading to an increase in questions from caregivers about how to help their children work on reading skills that align with what they’re learning in school. In this session, there will be an overview of what The Science of Reading is, with helpful terminology to assist with answering questions. There will be information about phonics and decodable books and additional resources to refer to families.\n\nLearning Objectives:\n\n	Understand the basics of the Science of Reading.\n	Learn about phonics and decodable materials in terms of reader’s advisory and what to look for in your collection to answer questions.\n	Discover other resources that might be helpful to relay to caregivers and educators.\n	 \n\nPresenter:\n\nSam Schneider is the Children’s Manager at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. She has spent 19 years working in various positions within public and academic libraries, but primarily within Youth Services. Currently, she serves as an Ohio Ready to Read Trainer and Task Force member. With a passion for promoting literacy and library services, she finds working with families to be one of the most fulfilling endeavors of her career.
