DESCRIPTION:Storytime Foundations Workshop\n\n11/19/26 09:30 AM EST\n - 11/19/26 03:30 PM EST\Description:\nStorytime Foundations, a hands-on workshop for library workers, covers the basics of planning and presenting a storytime. Attendees explore different formats, presentation styles, best book choices, music selection, and learning activity ideas. Facilitators lead discussion on what is developmentally appropriate for each age group and how to effectively engage caregivers in early literacy practices. This interactive learning experience provides multiple resources and basic information to allow attendees to begin building a strong foundation for storytime programming.\n\nPresenters:\nSam Schneider is the Children’s Manager at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. She has spent 19 years working in various positions within public and academic libraries, but primarily within Youth Services. Currently, she serves as an Ohio Ready to Read Trainer and Task Force member. With a passion for promoting literacy and library services, she finds working with families to be one of the most fulfilling endeavors of her career. She received her MLIS from Kent State University and also has degrees in Early Childhood Education and English.\n\n\n\nJulia Shaheen is the Literacy Manager at Stark Library where she oversees the Ready for School program. Through this program, staff visit parents and caregivers to help prepare families for school. She oversees library literacy efforts by providing staff, parent, and educator workshops. She is an Every Child Ready to Read and Reimagining School Readiness trainer presenting workshops throughout Ohio. She provided storytime and other programming in both in-person and virtual capacities. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Education as well as several certificates in reading and early literacy education. She has presented at numerous regional, state and national conferences.
