In this workshop, participants will delve into the essential aspects of adapted and inclusive programming. Learn how to manage behavior challenges as well as gain literacy techniques for disabled children.\n\nA Parent's Perspective on Adapted vs Inclusive Programs\nThe presenter will provide a parent's perspective on the purpose and goals of enrolling a child in adapted or inclusive library programs.  She will define terms and explain how each type of program addresses different needs in the community. The presentation will be followed by the opportunity to share ideas and questions. \n\nPresenter: Sarah Rintamaki  is the founder and Executive Director of Connecting for Kids. She has an MBA from University of Chicago in Finance and Strategic Management. She was a management consultant for The Boston Consulting Group and a Product Manager for Progressive Insurance Company before founding Connecting for Kids in 2011. She loves reading and is passionate about exercising, ice cream and outwitting her husband at board games.\n\n\n\nAdapted Storytime Basics\nInterested in offering adapted storytime at your library? She hosts programming for patrons with disabilities, both in the library and at local schools. She works with patrons of all ages and her favorite programs are cooking programs and Next Chapter Book Club. Natalie graduated in 2013 from Kent State University with a master's degree in library and information science. Her background is in English literature and creative writing. Wendy has worked as a Behavior Curriculum Intervention Specialist for 5 years and prior to that she worked for the Achievement Centers for Children in the Autism program.\n\n\n\nRussell Frankino, Behavior Curriculum Intervention Specialist\nRussell recently joined Cuyahoga DD as a Behavior Curriculum Intervention Specialist. Russ has worked as an Intervention Specialist for students with behavioral disabilities as well as significant trauma for the last 18 years. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEngaging Children Who Need Supports in Literacy Activities\nThe presenter will provide a brief introduction followed by ideas on how to use multisensory techniques and materials to support active participation in literacy experiences.  Specific examples will be shared that foster comprehension and the engagement of children with differing abilities.   The presentation will be followed by the opportunity to share ideas and questions. \n\nPresenter: \nKathleen Nash, MEd, recently retired after 38 years as an Intervention Specialist working with grades PreK -9th. Her last 25 years of teaching were with the preschool population. Working with children and families starting their journey into the education system has been very rewarding.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInclusive Programming\nJen Johnson will share tips and strategies for making all children's programming more inclusive and accessible for children with disabilities and other barriers. \n\nPresenter:  Jen Johnson started her library career with Cuyahoga County Public Library in 2000. She has worked in the children's department at three CCPL branches and as a grant coordinator out of central administration. Jen's areas of special interest include adapted/inclusive programming and kindergarten readiness.
