LOCATION:Online via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Coded Language\n\n03/24/21 02:00 PM EST\n - 03/24/21 03:00 PM EST\Description:\nLanguage and communication can be explicit and implicit; it is a component of culture that is coded with meanings, attitudes, beliefs and power dynamics. In other words, meanings of words and their implications change over time.\n \nIn this hour-long introduction to the concept of coded language, participants examine the definition, history, and implications of coded language (also called dog-whistles). Participants will increase their awareness around the coded language that many of us use in our daily lives, and gain practical skills around how to critically assess one’s own language, and respond when others use coded language.\n\nPresenter:\n\nMannie Brown, Diversity, Equity and INclusion Consultant, SHIFT Consuting Team, The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio\nIn this role, they focus on the development, design, implementation, and delivery of Diversity Center programs for professionals throughout Northeast Ohio.
