Event Description
One of NEO-RLS’s most popular programs, Back to the Book is in its 19th year. This year 's Back to the Book will focus on narrative nonfiction and listener/audio advisory. We will start the morning off with Bestselling Author William Hazelgrove.
William Hazelgrove will cover his long journey as a writer, a career that has produced 10 novels and 5 works of nonfiction. From the bakeries on the West Side of Chicago to speaking in The Woodrow Wilson House in Washington for C span and American History Television, William will recount his tale of struggle and triumph that led him down the road to writing bestselling fiction and nonfiction. He will also cover the evolution of the publishing industry from traditional days to the social media driven publishing of today. Following William’s author talk he will cover The New History Narrative Nonfiction. William will talk about the evolution of writing history today in the new style called narrative nonfiction. He will describe how straight history no longer serves the needs of the reader and how the novelization of history has become what people want to read now. Using the techniques of fiction to write serious history allows the reader to participate in the narration of history in a way that was not possible before. In the year 2018 readers have many different forms of entertainment and the days of slogging through a thousand page history book have given way to the narrative style of telling a story that hooks the reader and keeps them engaged in the historical story. Narrative nonfiction is the hottest growing market and William Hazelgrove walks us through this new form of writing. Learning Objectives:
